1. Edited original post as I have a new copy of Wilco's latest album 'Sky Blue Sky' up for sale. Literally 1 week old! £6 inc postage (ono).
2. Sorry to hear about your troubles. A member of my band has had recurring issues with his Peavey guitar amp and it's not a cheapy either. He had it back from repair again and after a week the same problems reoccurred, even though it's still under guarantee the customer service side of things doesn't sound impressive by any means. I don't think it would hurt for Peavey to know that their customer service is being discussed in a less than positive manner on a forum like this.
3. Right then, the Seymour Duncan Jazz pups have now been SOLD! The Mexican Precision and Japanese Jazz pups are still looking for a good home and I'm willing to haggle! Cheers, Phil
4.
What model Jazz pickups?
Hi, I've listed them here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=16793 Cheers, Phil.
5. Morning Folks, I've been having a bit of a sort out and appear to have amassed some pickups I don't really need so I thought I'd post them on here: Firstly I have a Seymour Duncan Jazz bass set, which involves a vintage SJB-1n neck pup and a hot SJB-2b bridge pup which complement each other perfectly. Here's the details: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/bass...jb1_vintage_fo/ http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/bass...jb2_hot_for_ja/ I believe these pickups retail for around £50 each, they have been used, and therefore have some light scratches on the covers so I'm looking for £50 for the pair including postage. Rest assured they are in full working order and will come shipped in original packaging with screws and little rubber bits! I also have a set of pickups from a Japanese Jazz bass that are sitting around doing nothing. I think they're probably of a similar standard to MIM pups, if not slightly better. £22 for the pair including postage. 1998 Fender mexican precision bass pickup also going spare, good condition with no pick marks on the surface. £14 posted. I live in Swindon so people can collect if preferred, paypal/cash/cheques accepted. Make me an offer! Cheers, Phil.
6.
Hello all, Playing this Saturday @ Riffs Bar, Swindon, with Dacoits & from USA; Bray. Please come along if you're in the area. Some cracking bands & a top venue! http://www.riffsbar.biz/ Cheers!
I'll be there as I play in The Dacoits! Should be a fun night, I'm hoping to have a few birthday drinks at Riffs too...
7. Yup, it's still up for sale, I've sent you a PM. Should have some SD jazz pickups up for sale soon too.
8.
Chris, That was MY choice. I am not that keen on Neo's, (Nor is Bill F apparently and he doesn't suggest using Neo's in the Omni 10). I find them a bit too mid-biased. In the end I have what I want, which is a lightweight set-up but a degree of warmth to the bottom end. Don't get me wrong, it can chuck out the mids with the best of them, but does not have a mid bias. Mike's intention was to use Neo's in his design, but after hearing the result of this particular set-up, he may have second thoughts. That said, if you want them, you can have them. I chose not too, just personal preference. They are rated at 350W RMS per Cab into 8 Ohms, (I think that is a conservative estimate as the drivers are capable of handling 500W RMS). Price wise, speak to Mike but he assures me these were made for me at a price he could sustain which is £259 and £225 depending on with/without a tweeter.
These cabs sound interesting, do they have a website?
9. EXL165's for me, I occasionally get a pack of pro-steels, but they're lacking a bit of mid punch compared to the nickels. I've tried Ernie Ball hybrids, DR lo riders & hi beams, GHS, LaBella, Rotosound Steels and Elites over the years but I keep coming back to D'Addarios. Although I've just put a set of Dean Markley Blue Nickels on my Lakland that I picked up in San Francisco for $17, they seem really good too thus far.
10. Judging from the studio photos Chris has quite a few basses to choose from; Thunderbird, Rick, a P and a J! Both times I've seen them he's been using a T-Bird though. It is a shame that Michael left, I saw them late last year at Brookes in Oxford and they were nowhere near as magic as they were previously in Bristol. It seemed like they'd hurriedly found a drummer and auxiliary guitarist in order to meet the touring commitments. I do think part of the charm was the three of them together, and Michaels drumming was superb. He does play on the new album though, hopefully they'll find a suitable replacement.
11. Morning Folks, I have a pickup from a 1998 Fender mexican precision bass going spare, good condition with no pick marks on the surface. Will come boxed in Seymour Duncan packaging with new screws and wiring diagram. I'm not sure how much to ask for this so I'll say £16 including postage but feel free to make me an offer. Thanks, Phil.
12. Tool, Lamb, Dead Meadow and Owen CD's all now sold. So, anyone want some obscure US punk CD's then?!
13. ha ha, to be honest most of them are wilfully obscure punk bands! I'm surprised people haven't heard of Lamb though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamb_%28band%29 10,000 Days has most definitely been sold, I'm musing over parting with Lateralus now too, I only really got on with Undertow and Aenima....
14. Hey, I needed to clear out some space in the CD rack so I thought I'd try to sell a few albums. All are in mint condition and haven't actually left the case more than a couple of times.... Wilco - Sky Blue Sky (new) £6 inc postage. Tool - 10,000 days SOLD Armor For Sleep - What To Do When You Are Dead (with 'making of' DVD) Heavens - Patent Pending (Alkaline Trio side project) Lamb - Best Kept Secrets SOLD No Use For A Name - More Betterness Mo Motiv - Diagram for Healing Strung Out - An American Paradox Dead Meadow - Howls From The Hills (still sealed) SOLD Grade - Under The Radar Owen - At Home With... SOLD I was thinking maybe £4 each plus £1 for postage, but I can haggle! Paypal accepted. Thanks, Phil.
15.
ill bring mine to the bash if you're going.
Thank you for the offer but I wouldn't be able to make it!
16. I really want to try one out but haven't actually found a shop stocking them as yet, I was tempted to just order one unseen but I'd prefer to physically try it first due to lower back issues!
17. Yeah, I love them too! There's something reassuring about the simplicity and that thick neck. I have a Lakland Glaub Skyline that plays and sounds amazing, I just wish it were a little lighter. But I shall keep searching for that elusive superlight p-bass! Is that the white squier VM p-bass you have?
18. I think it depends more on the wood than the actual model of bass. I'd love a p-bass that weighed as little as my MIJ jazz. As it is my Lakland Skyline Glaub definitely weighs more, and my old Mexican Precision was easily the heaviest of the bunch! What do the Highway One P's weigh in at then?
19. I was at the Bristol gig too, absolutely superb. Definitely one of my favourite bands of recent times...
20.
to be honest i think your just being a bit grumpy and old. I think you just like old music better so no matter how good something new sounds, you just won't want to listen to it.
As I said on the previous thread, just because it's not handed to you on a plate doesn't mean it's not out there. I find I'm still as excited about new music as I was 10 years ago, there's so many new bands and albums out there that I find inspiring regarding both songs and bass playing.
21.
Any Suggestions?...I'm all ears
I tend to agree with Toasted, just because they're not on MTV doesn't mean they don't exist. I've always found that the most inspirational music had to be found rather than being handed to you on a plate, but maybe that's just me. I listed a few earlier, but in case you missed them here's an expanded list; Kings Of Leon, Bloc Party, Biffy Clyro, Against Me!, Muse, Dillinger Escape Plan, We Are Scientists, Minus The Bear, Rancid, Alkaline Trio, Hot Water Music, The Dismemberment Plan, Six Going On Seven, At The Drive-In, The Matches, Bad Religion, Les Savy Fav, Constantines, Mastodon, Fireside, Sick Of It All, Billy Talent, These Arms Are Snakes, Rise Against... I guess it's entirely subjective but I think this thread has got a bit mixed up between bassists with swagger and attitude as originally listed and bassists with chops. I'm still trying to work out where The Fratellis, The View, The Feeling and 3 Doors Down fit into the equation...
