1. Yeah, I reckon I could screw the neck on to an old P -body, put the bridge on at a cockeyed angle and be good to go...
2. Maybe we could all chip in....
3. It's just possible this could be my perfect bass... not quite the perfect timing sadly, but you can't have everything...
4. Wonderlove and EBS Posted. Edit : Pics added.
5. NelsonMondeo took a bass off my hands - we had a good chat while I was faffing around getting it ready to go and he pinged me straight away when it got there. Nice easy sale. Much appreciated, thanks a lot!
6. Is St Neots a recent move for you? Or am I thinking of someone else?
7.
Makes a change from the customery Playboy
Wouldn't it be messy to get too, er, interested in the middle of taking a leak?
8. ...and then of course people can still make offers, so tell us what sensible is and we'll take it from there!
9.
Some very good prices there Mr. morto !
(Check for missing zeroes) Thanks, though mostly I'm just passing on the deals I got here and elsewhere, plus or minus my inability to remember exactly what I paid!

11. You can play any note, not just ones in the 12-tone scale. Essential for jamming with your local Gamelan. The keyboard player can tune down a bit, you can finger the notes a bit flat, and you can the whole practice session ripping on guitarist for how his axe is a POS 'cos it won't stay in tune. Put through effects, the slide doesn't sound as cliché'd (or at least, not the same cliché) - e.g. through gated fuzz it can give you a great analogue synth portamento effect.
12.
What's 'a bit of theory' and what's 'a lot of theory' exactly?
What I meant was : I know people who 'just play', much like the OP - and they're usually pretty good at what they do. Then I know people who can sight read, know how many sharps / flats are in a scale and will correct you if you say 'G#' when it should be 'A♭'... but those people usually have trouble with various aspects that I consider basic, even though I'm not a theory hound. They also often have more trouble trying something new than the 'just do it' people. And the people I know who know a lot more - Who can arrange a horn part on paper without even hearing the piece, and who are happy to move from one 'theory' to another as applicable to different musical styles, as well as understanding what ideas are truly fundamental - and who tie it all together by being active composers or performers - those are the kind of people who knock my socks off. Not really trying to imply anything by this other than it's my experience, and wonder if anyone else's experience is the same.
13. My general experience: People who know no theory are quite good People who know a bit of theory are crap People who know a lot of theory are very good The sample is 'people I have played with', and I am not that great, which may skew the results.
14.
Getting people on the dance floor as measurement of musicianship is quite funny. Failing to see the evident flaws in the statement is quite funny, yes.
That wasn't his point - he was saying that he thought being a musician should involve actually making some music on a regular basis, rather than (or as well as) simply having a level of knowledge.
Last time I checked people danced to technotronic and jenifer lopez, while listened to Bach, Holdsworth and the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
The point being...?
15.
PS...good joke about the dance floor there. Joker.
??
16. 'art' and 'artist' are the two of the most useless words in the language - no one agrees on what they mean, hence the words 'what is art?' are usually uttered in jest. The word 'musician' is perhaps almost as bad...
17. Sunday lunch bump. Pictures are going weird when I look - feel free to follow the photobucket link.
18. There is a big range of skills in music, and few musicians have anywhere near 'the full set', whatever that would be... If you can play the parts more or less as they should go, with the important bits in the right place, with the right feel, and look the part on stage - those are the necessary skills for being a musician in a rock covers band. (I myself struggle with the last one). As to whether there's anything else to learn - it depends what else you want to do. Do you want to be able to elaborate on and alter the parts you are playing? Do you want to be able to learn / play from score as well as by ear? Or create classy, sophisticated jazz versions of the songs you are playing? All would require learning different things.

(http://www.emgpickup...ducts/index/120) Apart from that, details as here: http://www.espguitar...2003/f-205.html I bought this as it's a 35" scale and I thought it would be appropriate for an experiment with low F# tuning. The experiment was interesting but I think finished for now, so this is up for sale. The bass is currently set up as per my experiments, with approprately fat strings and new filed out nut - but I have the original nut, so the bass can be put back just as it was. It has been played a fair bit and some fret wear can be seen, though you'd need a better camera than mine to photograph it. A few paint chips around the corners, which I hope I've shown the nature of in the photos (I mean they're not all pictured, but you get the idea) and a slightly bigger ding (1-2 cm long) on the lower edge near the knobs, also shown in the photos (I think picture makes it look bigger than it is.) It seems like it's a fairly hardwearing finish overall and from most angles it looks fairly smart. I am asking £145 if you can collect it from Cambridge as it is - hope that's a friendly price for a used, but solid, and upgraded, bass that takes into account the current setup. If you want me to set it up with more sensible strings so you can come and try it out we can discuss that too, and I have a box somewhere, so could also post, at buyer's expense. Now sold - thank you.
20. Bought a shoulder-pad-for-softies from Ian - it arrived with sacrilegious rapidity considering it was posted over the festive season. Many thanks!
21. Took another pedal off my hands (though I still have plenty), friendly and hassle-free transaction again. Thanks a lot!
22. Took a rather-good-but-probably-destined-to-be-underused fuzzrocious pedal off my hands. Nice easy deal, no problems at all. Many thanks!
