Does it buzz on every fret, if not due to age it may be fret wear contributing to this.

Having just acquired a Squier Classic Vibe Mustang Bass I`d def recommend these, can be picked up for around the £300 mark second hand. I`m very impressed with mine.

One of those bands that I`ve really come to appreciate later in life, think I`ll go to see them when they`re next nearby.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Lozz196 replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Agree, def one of the best basses I’ve ever played, they just work so well (for me that is). -
I`m another that who, although I`ve been playing since 15 has had the most successful period in music from late 40s onwards so def don`t let the age of 45 make you think there`s nothing for you now. I`d agree with the going to venues that do that music you like and getting it known that you`re looking for an opportunity. Might not be instant but you`ll be enjoying yourself whilst doing your research.

Martin responded to a Wanted Ad I`d placed for a Squier CV Mustang Bass in Oly White. Good comms throughout, speedy delivery and a cracking bass to boot, thoroughly recommended.

I care what my gear looks like but I don’t care what others think it looks like. There are undoubtedly some very fine instruments that I would probably love playing but I’m unlikely to ever find out due to how they look.

Festival backline vs bringing amps/Ampeg SVT 7 vs Tonehammer 700
Lozz196 replied to Misowaki's topic in General Discussion
If you def want to take an amp that will deliver then the Tonehammer - given you use the pedal already - makes perfect sense, they’re small, light, incredibly loud, and sound great. I used to use them and paired mine with so many different cabs, always easy to get a decent sound. -
Just got a Squier CV Mustang bass - thanks again @martin8708 - and I have to say that after an hour of playing it it really is a superb instrument. I`m sure that the components and body woods are cheaper in relation to the Fenders but in the hand just playing it, well the quality is amazing, it sounds great as well.

Festival backline vs bringing amps/Ampeg SVT 7 vs Tonehammer 700
Lozz196 replied to Misowaki's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like the Ampeg was a bit iffy to say the least. Having played a good few of these types of gigs I used to always have the DI from my preamp pedal rather than the amp. I could then set the amp to however I wanted for onstage sound knowing that the audience were getting what they were meant to (unless the desk people messed it up). In instances where the provided amp was rotten I’d turn it down and ask for more in the monitors. -
Whenever I use a wireless kit I always put a lead on top of the amp in readiness for problems. Fortunately never needed one yet........

People in the way after gigs, a fact of a musicians life sadly. As is not many people hang around in the way to have a Marshall 412 rammed into them a second time. Sometimes the old heavy gear has more than one use.

Agree, I don’t notice anything inferior when playing my JMJ Mustangs and I’ve always been a US Fender fanboi.

Seems like a good reason to get another one of those lovely Barefaced cabs methinks

I’ve only ever been in one band with a female in it, she was a backing singer. She wasn’t treated any differently than any of the others and didn’t expect or want it any other way.
-
Although I’ve had to make some changes recently I’m pretty content with my gear and bands, don’t think I’d actually change anything aside from if it were at all possible I’d get our singers leg back, he sadly lost part of it due to a motorcycle accident last year.

Those CMD121Ps are amazing amps @gjones, capable of a lot more than would be thought from their size
-
Aside from a currently pending purchase I’m not looking at anything at the moment.

I’ve two amps, both Ashdowns, RM500 EVO 2 and an Ant as backup. That said due to back issues I’ll now be going ampless just using my Sansamp, I’ll take along the Ant to gigs in case of difficult sound peoples. Edit - I forgot to include my home practice rig which is an Ashdown Mini Stack. Cab-wise I have two Ashdown ABM PRO NEO 210s for gigs should I need them.

Nice one @Smanth, really pleased for you

I think one of the reasons why rock covers bands like female singers is that once blokes advance in years, in general, their high pitching goes and most rock songs are sung quite high, as such females can generally reach notes that males left behind years ago, assuming they could ever get them in the first place. We had a similar conversation with the guy at our rehearsal studio, he said given the material we do - Rainbow, Deep Purple, Led Zep for example - we`d be hard pushed to ever find a male singer, other than one in their 20s, who could do that stuff and realistically would said guy that was able to sing that material be satisfied with being in a band with blokes in mid/late 50s, rather than put his talents elsewhere.

Given that they`re actually doing this live later in the year on tour, The Darkness with Permission to Land.
