I had mine in a Roqsolid cover and did tours with it in the back of the van etc, never any issues. Most of the gigs were with it in the back of an estate car, again no issues.

When some BCers say they're not much cop at bass.....

In the last few years I`ve discovered that I`m better than what I thought I was, this realisation came when learning some classic rock basslines from bands such as Rainbow, Led Zep, Dio, Whitesnake, Kansas etc, stuff that five years ago I would have thought was way beyond me. I`ve always thought I was good at what I did (root note punky stuff) but thought my limitations were much lower than what they actually are. -
Favourite songs where the bass line is the hook!

Too many to list but pretty much all by The Jam Eton Rifles, Down in The Tube Station, Town Called Malice, Pretty Green, It’s Too Bad to name but a few Edit - and New Years Day by U2, yes Adam Clayton riffing out for all the haters 🤣 -
Not good, was a decent venue, saw a good few bands there and did a couple of gigs there too (one with Whitney from Eastenders on the door which confused a good few customers).

Yep, I like the song but can`t stand The Pogues

I think of a dark sound being something like a Gibson Thunderbird without much treble on the amp.

I’ve got the white one and given I’ve decided it will be my gigging bass am going to get another. I wouldn’t gig with instruments I couldn’t get on with but these are great. -

I used my Squier CV Mustang Bass last night at rehearsal, with the tone backed off to about 60/70% it pretty much matches the tone of my JMJ Mustangs. -
How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?

Great rehearsal last night with my punky originals band The Spacewasters. We’ve a gig coming up next weekend so had to work on the set, not played these songs since the last gig at end of Aug aside from the ones we recorded for our new album in Sept. All sounded great, really tight. Aside from the drummer we were all using varying bits of new gear, for myself was my Squier CV Mustang Bass. Was using it as it’s white, the lead guitarist uses a white guitar live and I like the look of the two instruments at either side of the stage in matching colours and wanted to try it out before the gig. Anyway said CV was great and the Jazz width neck made it very comfortable to play. But the all important thing, it sounded great and really worked well with the band. So after this we messed around with a few daft covers just for fun - Addicted to Love, 9 to 5, Go Your Own Way, Bad Moon Rising amongst them. Given next weekend is Halloween weekend we’ll do Bad Moon Rising to keep in the spirit of things. -
For a while I had a pair of Ashdown RM210s, they were nice cabs and due to the cones being placed diagonally it reduced the width so they were much easier to cart about. This also helped on the height aspect as well. Sounded good though my only experience was using them with 4 string basses, no idea how they’d work with a fiver.

So an update on this, turns out that backing off on the tone control to about 60/70% gives me the JMJ sound. Have done a bit of research and the pots & capacitor are different so am getting the same installed (better quality never hurts) so not going to change the pickup.

Yup, I used Toneriders in my backup basses to my US Fender Precisions that had CS62s in, very little difference between them.
-
I had one of their Tony Butler Sig Precisions, was a superb instrument. Up until I got it I read many endorsements by pros stating how much they loved their own Vintage guitars and was sceptical, that changed when I bought mine. If it weren’t for the fact that I somehow feel disloyal playing anything other than Fender - yep, stupid I know - I’d have had a couple of them and gigged those rather than my more expensive US Fenders.
-
I keep thinking of one of @stevies cabs, given back issues a single good cab seems the way to go and the off-axis projection of these appears to be much better than anything else around.
-
I play similar basses/strings and have found that if the tweeters were switched on on my Ashdown cabs they added more definition and modernness to the sound, however I prefer my high end in a more old school way, less sharp and precise so I leave them off.

You’re in for a great night, they really are excellent

Gigs/Working with sound engineers /volume levels
Lozz196 replied to cdog's topic in General Discussion
It`s worth going wireless, standing out front when a song is going on and then when it`s stopped asking the soundperson what the words were on the chorus. If they can`t answer ask them to turn the backline down until the words can be understood. Often it`s the vocals that suffer in the inane attempt to have the worlds largest sounding kick drum and the then desperate attempts to match the backline to it. Getting soundpeoples to acknowledge that the words are important can result in a quieter gig. -
My thoughts too, the Stingray just doesn`t seem to work with those great riffs.
-
The backing vocalists clearly aren`t on the food rider..............

Sounds good Dave, one of my fave SLF songs

Thanks for the tip-off, I didn’t know they were back there. I saw them there last year (or was it year before???) and they were excellent. Ticket now purchased!
