Who's finally happy with their rig?
Lozz196 replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
I’m. happy with my gear, similarly JMJ Mustangs, but into a Sansamp BDDI v2 then into wherever is there. I have an Ashdown RM500 EVO2 and a Warwick Gnome iPro, plus two Ashdown ABM PRO NEO 210 cabs but have never needed to use my own amp set up since leaving my last band in 2019. I do wish I’d been able to use the JMJs through my old Ashdown ABM600 410 & 210 set up, think I would have really loved that as although I’ve been Precision nuts for years I seem to be able to get a sound I prefer from the JMJ. -
It wasn’t an overkill stack for the the gigs I was doing at the time, though for many gigs the 410 was plenty enough so I left the 210 out. Tools for the job, don’t be a man with a fork in a world of soup.

Agree, I had a BF410 & 210 stack, replaced it with an Ashdown ABM410 & 210 stack as I preferred the sound. Would the BF stack have gone louder, well probably, but at band volume settings the sound was no bigger or fuller than the Ashdown.

Ended up buying the bass, well that indeed says a lot, decent review there and makes me think I may well check these out. -
I have to stay within a 15 minute journey time to my workplace, SE Bash at least an hour away. Tried to swap but the rest of my colleagues apparently have lives (selfish swines one and all).

You have to spend £300 on effects pedals for tonight's gig…
Lozz196 replied to max_overdrive's topic in General Discussion
Agree @PaulWarning, in my last band I’d try new basses/amps/cabs pedals etc and they’d just say “it’s a bass, it goes boom in the background”. -
I found that with the 10s I couldn’t get the sharp abrasive top end that I wanted, they were just a little too smooth sounding. But my sound was Lemmy/JJ Burnel/Duff McKagan so unless needing that sort of high end the 10s would be fine. Whereas as above the 12s are much cleaner and more hi-fi sounding.

Bassface to space face (i.e. empty..kinda)
Lozz196 replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Def the latter for me, I’ve been described as looking like I was staring people out whilst on stage when in fact I was just looking at the audience to see if they were enjoying the gig. I try to remember to smile as I’d prefer to look simple & happy than aggressive. -
That’s a remark which I resemble.

Good gig to get Paul, great venue too

What a great opportunity, I’m sure you’ll be sadly missed Pete.

Recommend a modern lightweight amp for vintage tone
Lozz196 replied to ossyrocks's topic in Amps and Cabs
The EVO-II is about half the weight of the EVO-I version. It also has a matt finish on the facing plate rather than shiny, the shiny version did make it a bit difficult to make adjustments on stage so Ashdown changed it. Other than that the sound/controls are the same. -

Definitely, have used my RM500 with BF cabs and they pair well together. -

For me the Ashdown RM wins out here as I found it to have more - dare I say the H word - heft to the sound than any of the other class D amps I tried (Markbass, Tonehammer, TC RH, GK MB). Edit - forgot to mention as well that being UK based should the amp develop any unlikely issues it’s easy to get it dealt with, Ashdown being a great company to deal with. -
I’ve read that too 😀 I think Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols had/has similar views re white Gibson Les Pauls being better sounding than the others.
-
I’ve read that the J pickup still affects the sound even when off but on the PJ basses I’ve had, both with separate volume controls and with blends I’ve never noticed it, just sounded regular P to me.

In my right hand side back pocket of my jeans, nice & easy to get to.

Wireless system - Lekato, Boss or something else?
Lozz196 replied to ots's topic in General Discussion
As long as it’s ok with active instruments that would be fine. -
Mainly the radio in my house as a kid so whatever was in the Top 20 at the time. Given that - at the time they were happening- I liked 70s glam rock then punk then new wave I suppose it has influenced me.

Same, to be honest when I got mine I didn’t even notice the lack of contours, it’s just so comfortable as it is.
