My band, The Spacewasters played in Malta earlier this year (I didn’t go as no longer get on planes) and they did a deal with the organising Malta band that they got all the door money, with a reciprocal agreement that the same happened when the Malta band came over here - which happened last weekend. Sadly with things the way they are it’s unlikely that similar could be arranged but it may be worth trying to set up something like that with a local band who would be willing to play for expenses only.

Agree @ezbass, my family come from SE London so I`ve been going to London all my life, it has really changed over the last 10 years. On Saturday we had a gig at Kings Cross and the route, one which I`ve been doing since the 70s, well there were places I didn`t recognise, and new one-ways/roundabouts etc.

Two injuries - upper back/shoulder done in 1984, lower back two years ago. The upper whilst it`s caused me several issues over the years I`ve learned to manage due it it being so long term, the lower I`m still getting to grips with what I can & can`t do, with most things falling into the latter category. Age also having an impact on this, I`m sure if I were 39 with this lower back malarkey rather than 59 I would have been able to sort it with exercise/gym work.

Cheers Dave, yeah back issues at play, both upper and lower now, any form of exercise other than walking sadly just makes it worse.

Yeah decided to not go for it, if it were confirmed at 7lbs I would but if it gets here and it’s 7.5 it’s a load of faffing about so gonna wait until either a confirmed 7-pounder or my superlite turns up.

Sounds like it was a good purchase Dave, sounds good and makes life easier, there’s a lot to like there.

Agree, I’ve only had my fave Precision for 10 years but because I’ve played it so much it just feels “right” in my hands, and different to the other Precisions that I have, all of which are the same range and strung with the same strings. The more I play my fave the better it feels, I get much more enjoyment playing that bass than any other.

I get that Nik, similarly I can play guitar ok enough but have never really felt like “me” when being a guitarist in a band, my home is bass.

Next Knock Off gig is Sat 31 May at the O2 Academy Islington, supporting Cocksparrer.

Next Spacewasters gig is Fri 30 May at the same venue.

It is thinner by about 2mm, but the necks of that range are also quite shallow which can make a fair difference in the feel.

Just used one of these at a gig, not sure which it was but given I needed to push the volume a fair bit for just stage volume I’d say it was the lowest powered one. We only had a line check so all I did to get a sound I liked was drop mids a tad to say 11 o’clock and boost highs to about 1 o’clock and it sounded great. Was into an Ampeg Portaflex cab, no idea which sadly. All the bands used this rig and it sounded great with an array of basses, a real rich, full bottom end but without being at all boomy, I really liked this rig.

I just love playing music, if I’m honest I don’t really like all that comes with a gig anymore, but playing I just love. I’d be happy to only rehearse and record nowadays.

Just got in from a Spacewasters gig at The Water Rats, Kings Cross, London. 4 bands on, with us in main support slot. Used my JMJ Mustang bass through the provided Ampeg Venture head and cab and the sound was great. We only had a line check but that’s no problem for us, we played well, with a nice groove and the set was well received. I wore my Skechers trainers and my foot is hurting, darn plantar fasciitis!

They are great cabs Dave, I had two of the ones with tweeters (tho never used those), only ever used both for show as one was plenty enough.

Agree, it`s getting to the point where at some gigs it decimates pretty much all the other instruments.

Yeah it was a great tone, was only in a pub covers band and to the volume of the drums but the depth of the tone was awesome. The guitarists also used valve amps & 412s so the sound of the band was very full without needing to be overloud.

Some people need to be playing regularly to get the best out of them, trying the same person on the same songs 3 rehearsals in a row should show no 934 to be either like this or a stay static.

Well a year on and having done a lot of work on my fretting hand technique fortunately this doesn`t seem to have gotten worse. I did at first buy a couple of basses with thinner necks but they`re not really my preference so put the hours in on said technique, all seems ok. I have also added in turmeric/black pepper/giner supplements as @Geek99 suggested, and a daily tablespoonful of olive oil to my diet, both apparently natural anti inflammatories, so these may also have had an effect, as they certainly have on my back which also feels better.

Part of me is still tempted to give it a go, aaarrrrggggh
