1. It always really makes me nervous when a drummer leaves as for me they are the most important member of the band. Good drummers are worth their weight in gold. All I'll advise is that you try a few as well as your mate and go for the one that puts a smile on your face when you play together. Good luck.
2. Johnny B Goode is a great tune with great energy and folk love it so why shouldn't it be played? People sometimes forget that playing live is for the enjoyment of the people listening and the players. If the open mic night is in a place with a mixed audience and the people playing enjoy it then it's going to be a winner. Glad you enjoyed your night
3. +1 for an active pa speaker or wedge monitor. It'll essentially just put out what you put in but louder.
4. I have used pmt Oxford, Northampton and Birmingham regularly. Oxford is a friendly shop although the smallest of the three. The other two are good also. I had to look after my nephew who lives in Birmingham for a day a few weeks back so we popped into pmt brum for a nose about. They let him play drums without batting an eyelid even when he wanted to try a £5k electric kit. I rarely buy basses or amps new so usually only pop in for smaller bits. Oxford and Northampton don't carry a wide selection of strings which is probably my only disappointment but it's hardly the end of the world.
5. Got a faith no more t shirt from the real thing tour in 1990. I was only 14 at that gig and shouldn't have been allowed in but my sister's mates boxed around me as we went in. I regularly gig in the suit my dad got married in back in 1968 if that counts.
6. If money was no object I'd pay for private tuition from that Marta lady on YouTube.
7. I have an HD350 and love it. It's so clean and articulate. Just like ebs Freak I don't like tubes in my signal path and that's why I went 350 not 650. I use a schroeder 21012 4ohm cab which has a good tweeter and the sound is just what I look for in a bass. Can't see where you are as I'm on mobile but if you're local you're welcome to come try mine.
8. Hey Jim, if you have a Talkbass account you can message Agedhorse (andy) and he'll be able to help you out if you ask nicely. He's sent me two sets now (the latest set are on their way as we speak). Don't throw the old ones away as it'll only be one that is faulty so if you keep them you'll have two spares.
9. I'm a young looking 38 so may get away with looking like an older brother :-D
10. We always choose the engineer first and the studio becomes secondary. In recent years we've used a chap called Matt Hyde based in Wimbledon a few times and he's been great to work with. Once we have his time booked we just hire a convenient and well equiped studio to track stuff in and then everything else is done at his home. He's worked for a lot of metal bands like Slipknott, Bullet For My Valentine and Funeral For A Friend but he's also done albums for Rodrigo Y Gabriella and others. I personally prefer this approach as it feels less compromised. You may like a particular studio for atmosphere and feel but their engineers may not be the right fit or vice versa.
11. Bump. Sensible offers considered :-)
12. Bump. Will listen to sensible offers and will courier for £20.
13. Shame about the age restriction. I like what you do.
14. I think that on BC some people over price items, some people under price items and some get it spot on. It's when I find someone with good positive feedback, selling what I want at a price I find acceptable that I buy it. I'm happy for anyone, regardless of location, with whatever feedback, to advertise at whatever price they see fit. I will only pull the trigger when all my previously mentioned boxes are ticked. I really enjoy buying and selling on here as it's very rare that I come across anyone that isn't a pleasure to deal with.
15. Hmm my amp will run at 2 ohms. I could add this to my current 21012 and move planets.... Great cabs these, I bought mine following Mark's recommendation and am so happy that I did. GLWTS
16.
I've been looking after it for you, Tom. It's as good as the day I bought it from you. It's just that Old Father Time is hard on my heels!
I'm so tempted and am genuinely considering it. It is hands down the best cab I've ever used. My only problem is that I transport the band pa and I don't think I'd have room to get it in the car.
17. Eric Clapton at the Albert Hall on the "From The Cradle" tour. Refused to play any real classics and droned on with a load of self indulgent dull blues crap that made me want to top myself. Since then I can't stand the guy and every time he turns up at someone else's gig to do a "guest turn" I head for the bar.
18. Whoop whoop. Thanks to Interparcel and UPS I've managed to transform my Saturday this weekend from having a mind numbingly tedious "lie in" followed by a hideous "easy day" in order to have a thrilling drive to South West London and deliver the bass I sold to a fellow BCer which was meant to be collected today by UPS...........but wasn't!
19. Oh bugger, I may have to buy this back.......
20. Exactly what it says on the tin. A 25m 16 in 4 out stage snake made by studiospares which has been barely used. All ins and outs working perfectly. Comes with cover for the stage box to keep dust etc out during transit. Collection prefered from south Northants. Can courier at buyers cost (about £20 as it's a little heavy). 21. Thanks Charic, yeah it really is a great desk. We've gone digital now, hence the sale, but i love how good this sounds and how reassuringly solid it feels.
22. For sale is my Mackie ONYX 1640i firewire mixer - £400 A fabulous mixer for live bands and recording which has been meticulously looked after and lived its whole life in a flightcase I made for it on the day it arrived. Perfect for any medium sized gigging band with 16 XLR mic preamps. This is the firewire version so can be hooked up to a laptop or PC to become a 16 channel interface. We have used this feature to record countless live shows and then after remixing and mastering we send the bride / groom a little surprise with a copy of their wedding gig on CD. We have also used it for studio recording at home. Please note however that this version is not compatible with Windows 8 or Windows 10. We have used both Windows 7 and Windows Vista with it without issue but I know that Mackie made a newer version of it which was for current Windows operating systems. We simply installed Windows 7 on our recently aquired laptop to run it. It's in A1 condition with not a single crackly pot or noisy channel, absolutely everything works as it should and it's clearly been built to last. I have the original box too! I also have a pristine 25m Studiospares 16/4 stage snake for sale for £100 but will include it with this mixer for an extra £50 if buyer wants it. Prefer collection from South Northants due to size and weight but if buyer wants to organise a courier then I will happily seek a box big enough, provide dimensions and weight and be available for courier collection.
23. Just bought a beautiful jazz from Stuart. Excellent comms and a real nice chap to do a deal with. Super pleased with the jazz and would defo buy from him again without hesitation.
24. Just sold a Squier Jazz to Dan and it was a very easy transaction. Thanks for great comms and swift payment. Tom
25.
RCF are ok...the benchmark is QSC in this mid level market, IMO.
You see this is where it's subjective. We had QSC KW122s and got shot of them in favour of RCF722s because we found the RCF's sounded so much more natural and the throw on them was noticeably better.
