1. It's not just the bedroom hero dentist in his 50s types that turn their noses up though either, I had some young lads (20s) in a band laughing at my 'Stingray copy' years ago huddled around in the back stage dressing room, I didn't bother engaging them but I knew what they were saying regards the missing features of a genuine EBMM, the look on their faces was brilliant when an older mate of theirs came back stage and spotted it "wow is that a real pre EB Stingray, can I look at it?" , "yes it is and of course have a go if you like" I knew of the guy a bit and knew he was alright and a bassist! He went on to bore them about how good a bass it is for ages after, it is too Foxx of this parish has it now I think?
2. I had a trans green 320 the 20 bit would have added gold hardware to it so it won't be a 420, more likely a 410 but I'm not sure what the first number relates to? Brilliant bass, I'm not sure who has it now and the serial number rubbed off as it's just a sticker and I played it a lot!
3.
I disagree about the Audi S-Line. I think there's no confusion between say an Audi A3 S-Line and an Audi S3... the badge is pretty different, and there are none of the outwardly distinct S-series features. The S-Line does look a little 'sportier' than the standard models, but it's to do with stuff like the wheels and stuff. The interior of the S-Line is 'pretty', with leather seats etc, and I think that's the sort of thing that attract people to the S-Line, not looking like an S3 or S4 or whatever. Yes, you guessed it, I own an S-Line A3 I got it used, and the fact it was an S-Line was actually one of the negative points when I went to try it. I don't care for low profile tires and sporty suspension (you feel every little bump on the road, which gets tiring in everyday use), but it looks nice especially inside, it feels great, I loved the seats, it drives really nice... and it was red and the boot fitted my two cabs perfectly... so I went for it. Mine is the one with the smallest engine in the range, which suited me... I had a 1.6 Golf before, and this is a 1.4 Turbo which is slightly more powerful, with noticeably nicer acceleration, and it's a lot more fun to drive even if it's most definitely not a racing car... and all that while getting a much better MPG than my old Golf. I don't think anybody sees my car and thinks it's highly powered. It just has nice aesthetic touches compared to the standard version. I only wish it had smaller wheels with higher profile tires and less 'sporty' suspension... although I have to admit I love the way it handles bendy A and B roads, where lots of other cars have to slow down I can just sail through. ANYWAY... carry on... I just had to come in and defend part of what the S-Line provides. It looks pretty standard and nothing like an S3... "S-Line" just specifies a particular interior and some minor externally visible details like the wheels...
One thing that grinds my gears is 'Sport' models, I'd make a law that says you can't call it a sport unless it is used somewhere in a sport, a Citroen Picasso sport? Hhmm which bit is sporting? Ah rant over.
4.
you're terrible
Thanks
5. I'm not really a fan of labels to define bands so I'd put Mike Patton in the list too, still no match for Cornell, what a shame when he was still spreading joy to thousands on the live scene.
6. Do we include Mr Grohl in the surviving grunge singers list? I would personally.
7. At least he didn't get to twang any G strings that day then!
8.
People who struggle to hear themselves don't need vertical 4x10s, they need better quality cabs. Barefaced, Greenboy and BFM are an example of cabs (there are more) that are quality. Most cabs from your local music shop are not quality. They are built with cheap drivers and built to market requirements, not driver requirements. They are also built to maximise profit. An example of a quality cab is my Greenboy Fearful 12/6. One little light cab (32lbs) and it can take a thousand watt power amp. The dispersion, both near and far, is amazing. It will handle a low F# string no problem. Two of them is just ridiculous! Just my opinion.
So your not using a 4x10 cab then, maybe there's a reason the manufacturers you mention aren't big on 4x10 cabs, Barefaced only started making one recently and it's apparently not a conventional 4x10 for the reasons of dispersion, crap cabs will always be crap I agree but your comment makes no sense, a cab of the same brand with the speakers laid out differently wouldn't suffer the same dispersion problem, the physics of the 4x10 is the problem which you've overcome with a 12+6 arrangement. Fwiw those greenboy cabs are fantastic and probably what I'd go for if I needed a new cab!
9. There will definitely be something in the small print about the meter being physically read (not by you) periodically, the tamper seals and visual inspection for condition can't be checked online either.
10. https://www.thomann.de/gb/db_technologies_opera_12.htm they've just had a redesign of the grilles too.
11. The DB Technology stuff sits between the Alto/Behringer stuff and the RCF range but they're owned by RCF, we've got the RCF735s for FOH but the DB 10" ones for the wedges and they sound pretty good, the 12 or 15 inch ones would be cracking and worth the investment over the Alto imo.
12. And glad rags!
13. Yep hanged, how sad and although I know little about his personal life my thoughts go to his close friends and family.
14. Cucumber sandwich anyone?
15.
Possible suicide?!?! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-39960066
Wouldn't that just be the natural course of events if anyone aged 52 and fit as a fiddle dies?
16. I'm not convinced unless it's macca.
17. There's a few people on here using a pair of the already quite tall vertical Genz 2x12T 4 ohm cabs with the Genz shuttle 12.0 heads which put 600watt into each cab separately at the same time, talk about trouser flapping! 4x12 vertical, 1200 watts and two adjustable tweeters, lovely.
18.
Waiting for the first smart meter hack that under-reports usage..... Update - already done..
I had a digital gas meter, only 8 years old maximum at the time as we've only had mains gas in the village since 2000,they wrote to me saying "it's reached the end of it's serviceable life", when the guy came to swap it for a standard old style one he said people have worked out that if the battery goes flat the reading is lost then it's impossible to charge them! those people have worked out a way of making the battery go flat.
19.
Yes, I was more than gobsmacked to've just read that in the online Guardian. Soundgarden were the only band from the grunge scene i like, definitely a cut above.Saw them a few years ago playing Brum. A quality. live act. .
Was that the gig where both Ampegs failed and he gave the bass away to a friend in the audience?
20. Biggest shocking one since Kurt for me, my immediate circle of proper friends from school, college and uni etc are all massive fans, most of us passed our driving tests between around 1993-1995 so most journeys involved some sound garden, not crashing a car while air drumming to rusty cage is a skill in itself! In fact I think my friend might have crashed his Nissan micra through a hedge whilst enjoying some sound garden. Ah man
21. If it was the drummer I suppose it would be similar to playing to a click, drummer doesn't have any live fold back and plays to his/her click or along with the backing track then the group play along with the drums being streamed, as long as the drummer and track had a count in it wouldn't matter as long as you are streaming it one way if you like?
22. Totally pissed off at this one! His new solo stuff sounded really good to me, properly shocked
23. I still see musicman as stingrays only* *I still fancy a big Al 5 SSS though
24.
My Jaydee Supernatural had a mini toggle switch between the volume & tone controls for the active circuit.
Yes I've seen a switch as well as the Jack just like a push pull active passive switch but they've still got the stereo Jack, leaving one on passive would stop the drain though I'd think, no such option on a genuine musicman though.
25. Everyone knows the audio business is a cut throat environment to work in.
