We have both the Jam nights where it really is a jam, put your name down for bass and get thrown on with who ever to play something (I like these) and we also have ones similar to that in the advert where it is more of a showcase 3 or 4 songs by set groups. If you have 20-30 people waiting to have a jam then I find it hard to watch one person take up 20 mins on their own as a solo artist, there are plenty of open mics more suitable for folky one at a time performers IMO. I lost interest with proper jams after every one I have been too usually involves the idea that each regular bassist brings their amp every say 5-6 weeks, I have no issue with that but it normally turned out my week most weeks as the others were "stuck at work" "ill" "running late" etc but always managed to get there about 30 mins after all my gear was setup. The last local jam someone started and I agreed to the 1 in 6 week idea I think I did 4 weeks then the jam folded anyway! Back OT what I was getting at is that if someone is going to setup the whole thing other than your bass/guitar/drum sticks and vocal chords I can see what an arse that would be every week/month.

I have measured both the Stagg and my DB and the stagg has approx 10cm extra length behind the bridge, the scale length is about 5-6mm longer than the regular upright. Thinking out loud here then, so if you fit 4/4 strings designed to be weichs to the stagg the shorter scale length will make the strings floppier than the manufacturers intended so a set of 4/4 starks might give something more like a medium tension and mittels more of a weich tension, weichs then not being suitable. I have 3/4 weichs and they work well, lighther to play than my DB but not flappy or rattling etc. Hope that makes sense?

I thought about cutting a square of wood off the bridge to just move it up about 10mm and only need to countersink the ball ends by about the same thus leaving plenty of wood. If you made a new block then it would be easy enough to just drill the holes at a slight angle so the strings exit at the same angle as the factory spec one. TBF once its done most people are talking about 10 years for a set of Spiros anyway

Well I presume you will need 4/4 strings in any brand unless you want to do the alteration I did, putting 4/4 strings on will obviously muck the desired tensions around so it might be worth drilling the block out, once it's done you can fit anything then.

The standard 3/4 strings were not long enough, the silks were on the fingerboard by about an inch. I took the string block thing off and drilled the holes deeper so the ball ends are now nearer the bridge but the remaining wood left is not very thick, others have done the same with no long term problems but I might get a custom block made to fit with that inch added so standard strings will fit without the worry of it splitting, I will look for my old thread......

I had to countersink the ball ends to get 3/4 spirocores to fit because of that, I might get my mate to make me a mahogany block that sits further forward with a recess for the body shape.

I think anyone that thinks this way is just getting old, I thought Jessie J and Katy Perry were both known for being song writers that had sucess writing for other people at a young age then decided to take a bit of the limelight for themselves? Lady Gaga is a great vocalist, pianist, songwriter and to top it off can dance too. The latest Justin trousersnake song is quite catchy if I remember and he can dance too. I'm not really into that sort of music but people just toss these names into these discussions because their own record collection ended when they left college in 1984, people have said it since the birth of popular music, rubbish, can't tell what they are singing, hair like girls blah blah.

Yeah the foam under the strings behind the bridge is the most important mod anyway if you ask me, cool.

Again not sure if its the sound of the clip rather than the bass/mic/playing/studio recording etc etc but I can get a better sound than that from my Stagg!

I only used mine for it's first proper gig with the 2x12T last weekend although we have had lots of full scale practices. It was very useful having one channel set up for the electric up right and the other for the stingrays

My Genz Shuttlemax 9.2 is awesome, both channels are ace and I can't decide which I prefer but I don't have to as its just a click of the footswitch to change channels
