1. Play in standard tuning until they make their minds up.
 2. As well as Denmark St, check out Ivor Mairant's on Rathbone Place and Chappell's on Wardour St. Both an easy walk from Denmark St. Also Hobgoblin on Rathbone place for the more esoteric instruments. Also, check the 12 Bar on Denmark St for live. If you want someone to look after your underwear junky girlfriend while you go effects shopping, I'm sure there'll be plenty of basschat volunteers.
 3.
when they come off inside the ear
*runs off sniggering*
 4.
Headphones always break IMHO . Shops refer to take faulty ones back.
I heard the B&W C5's I mentioned earlier because a friend was about to take them back as a cable had become intermittent in the first couple of months of use. He went into the Apple store, said "new ones please" and presto there they were. £150 earphones there.
 5.
Be careful buying Sennheisers on eBay---lots of fakes out there.
Thanks - I've compared them to a shop-bought pair - they look and sound ok to me.
 6. Having said that, I heard some B&W C5's recently, and I may be upgrading next time. If not direct to the C5s, then others I'll be looking at are Grado and iGi
 7.
I'm really pissed off about it. The moulded sleeves on the minijack keep splitting and f***ing them up. They aren't cheap either.
What model have you got? I use CX400-ii and they're fine. (£20ish on eBay)
 8. Yep, used them loads. Very handy when switching between guitars of different output levels in the same set. In my Genesis tribute band days I had three on the go: one for bass, one for guitar, one for bass pedals. I used Ernie Ball volume pedals - can't remember which one exactly but the whole range are here: http://www.ernieball.com/products/pedals/
 9. Although it's reminsicent of this in places http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv6mEv_rDdE eg "sitting in the Dschungel" = "pathetic little fat man"
 10. Video at http://www.davidbowie.com/vision?videopremiere=true - Tony Levin on bass.
 11.
Plenty of people on here and elsewhere, were less than discreet about the Bass Callar. I believe that is not there any more. In this economic age the way Wunjos treat customers is what brings people back. It's browsing and good advice that eventually leads to a sale.
I've not been to Denmark St for a few weeks, but last time the Bass Cellar had moved to the basement of Rockers, over the road - apparently there were fears at the time that the construction of the new Crossrail station at Tottenham Court Road would affect the north side of Denmark St, so there was a panic move.
 12. Have a rummage through the links on this thread http://basschat.co.uk/topic/155000-individual-songs-bass-scoredots-where-from/ and you'll find a chart for Music For Chameleons. Can't remember exactly where, but it's there somewhere
 13.
If Mr McIver is still following this thread, thanks for allowing so much feedback; I think the mag reflects some of that feedback. I would like to suggest an interview with James Hutchinson, Bonnie Raitt's bass player. To me, he kind of represents the ideal- talented but modest, with a lovely feel for the fretless, and I would enjoy hearing his views. Thanks.
Hutch was in the July 2012 copy of Bass Player mag. You should be able to pick one up on eBay.
 14.
You could just cut the old plug off and put a UK 13A plug on instead.
Now you tell me. (good idea, but doesn't quite tick my obsessive boxes. plus, EU resale value maintained this way).
 15. Took delivery of this yesterday: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390483280215 Perfect. £2.79
 16.
Personally I'd go for the Rega, but I've never used, heard or owned a Project. I've heard many say they're excellent, and very few against them. I've yet to hear anyone speak against any Rega kit but it could happen. SevenOaks sell the Rega, you could ask about doing an audition with some of your own vinyl. A good shop will let you have kit on an audition loan in your own home for a few days.
Oh absolutely, I've already been in touch with Sevenoaks. Unfortunately they've only got the cheaper Pro-Ject available for demo. Also got my eye on Oranges And Lemons in Battersea, they've got the RP3 but not the more expensive Pro-Ject. Are there any other central/SW London hifi shops anyone can recommend?
 17.
It's like angel dust, only more sparkly! I get mine from Elias' shop ^
I'll have two of each. Incidentally, I'm in the market for a new turntable. Got my eye on either the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, or Rega RP1, or if I'm feeling fancy the Pro-Ject Xpression 3 or RP3. Anyone got experience of any of the above that they can share? It'll be used with a Marantz PM6010OSE Amp and Celestion DL4 Series 2 speakers.
 18.
The rest is just voodoo and fairy dust
Where do I get this fairy dust, and is it expensive?
 19. Yep, that's what I've got my eye on first. I need to double-check the shape of the euro-plug first though to make sure it'll fit. Maplin have this: http://www.maplin.co...or-black-394235 and eBay has this one: http://www.ebay.co.u...K-/360396416623 It needs to be in black of course...
 20. I've been trying to track down a replacement PSU for a Mark Bass pedal - mine's got a euro-style plug, being slightly OCD about such things I wanted a UK plug rather than a departure lounge adaptor. (It's one of those PSUs where the actual plus slots in and out so you can easily replace it depending on where you are) Cost of adaptor plus UK plug: £53.75 + VAT Cost of just the UK plug: £49.25 + VAT I'm off to Maplins to see what I can get. Failing that, a handy departure lounge will do.
 21. Got mine as well! Agree about construction, although the three knobs on top feel a little flimsy, it's clear why the two metal guards are in place. Didn't have too much time to play last night, but been through the first ten or so presets with a big grin.
 22. Regarding subs: Good idea, but for the low-frequency (sorry) sellers who don't sell much, it'll be off-putting. How about £20 for a year, or (say) a one-off £2 for an individual item? (sorry if this has been covered before, I didn't read the whole thread)
 23. Sonuus are selling a Wahoo in their pre-Christmas sell-off: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/sonuuslimited (also some other stuff there: a B2M, for example)
 24.
She was explaining how her kit was an exact replica of Phil Collins' one, and how the newer versions have the "wrong" colour hardware, or something.
Except she's not left-handed, but I learnt to not mention that pretty sharpish. I mentioned something similar to the bassist from Genesis trib The Musical Box (he's left-handed, Mike Rutherford righty - TMB are lauded for their visual accuracy), he got a bit huffy.
I suggested it was ironic that she was playing "progressive" music but was obsessed with historical accuracy
Even though the "progressive" label has little to do with actual progression but a lot to do with composition style, this is pretty much why I knocked the tribute band scene on the head. Apparently "Jazz" derives from "jasm" meaning "spirit, energy, vigor" (according to wikipedia). Some jazz does the exact opposite to me.
 25.
But was Kevin Bacon involved at all?
He owned it pre-Norm of course.
