I bet, I'll keep my eyes peeled next time.

Wish I'd known about the Krantz gig. Who else was in the line-up? JZ was brilliant, thanks. Mostly material from the new album. I was lucky enough to get a ringside seat, front and centre. Jamie and Tim are a powerhouse. edit: and to add to that, I've seen Tim Lefeb a couple of times before but only last night was I up close enough to appreciate his control of a Electro-Harmonix Frequency Analyzer with toe power alone

Saw Tim Lefebvre playing a BiSonic at the Vortex last night. Had a chat in the interval with him and Mister Wilcock about his basses, and the 60s-English influence of Harmann, Burns Shergold etc (I'm a fan of the latter and enjoyed the Marathon-esque look of the BiSonic). Lovely basses!

Yep, used Moog Taurus I pedals for many years while in Genesis tributes. They generally went straight into the PA rather than any kind of amp. For practice at home I'd put them through a small mixer along with bass guitar channel then out to a combo at bedroom volumes. But yes equipped with a suitable sound system, in gigs they would make your purple loons flap and your fillings rattle at a range of several furlongs. For a while I had both the T1 and the newer Taurus 3 pedals, which is clearly surplus to requirement. I had the T1 tarted up and sold to a lovely chap in a Swiss prog metal band, and it just about survived ParcelForce et al attempts to deliver by instalments. Given how much I usee them these days, the T3 might be available for purchase at some point soon as well, GAS fans.

As a previous Rutherford in tribute land, agreed that Lee Pomeroy is top of the pops when it comes to Hackett's band. That said, Nick Beggs, Jonas reingold et al are no slouches either. I had a chat with Terry Gregory (from pre-Genesis Revisited days) at a gig recently and he gave Lee Pomeroy the tip of the hat as well. Funny thing was (and I pointed this out to him to some "omg yes youre right" reaction) that both he and Lee are upside-down lefty players, which makes copping any licks pretty much impossible. As was Jimmy Haslip, coincindentally playing in the bdan we'd just seen. Anyway - back on track. The Musical Box, seen them a few times since the mid-90s but not since The Lamb at (a very well sold) Royal Albert Hall. Many ticks in boxes and good luck ongoing to them, but for me their level of authenticity is far too close to what's recorded rather than that was played live.

Crimson at RAH was £80, Snarky about £50. There's a bonus to be paid for seeing a hot band in a small venue. I bet if Crim played Ronnies we'd see some pretty high ticket prices. Meanwhile I look at it like this. For my £80 at the RAH, I imagine myself going to each of the eight band member afterwards, saying thank you sir for a splendid evening's entertainment, peeling off a tenner and handing it over. By the same maths, for my £50 standing ticket at Ronnie's to see a 13-man Snarky, that's about £3.85 per Pupp. Not bad really.
-
I always get the Restricted View seats at Ronnies, it's not that restricted really. Unless of course there's cheaper standing tickets! Having said that, I've noticed recently that the venue has reduced the footprint of the Restricted View tables, it used to extend all the way to the wall on the left by the entrance. Now those tables are somehow not as Restricted a view as they used to be.

Two dates in June 2020, two sets per night: https://www.ronniescotts.co.uk/performances/book/5832-snarky-puppy Cheap seats = £75 (standing for £50, but good luck getting one)

Sad news. A previous band featured his and Pat's 'Phase Dance' in the set, always a high moment.

Bass Guitar Magazine - January 2020 "Fieldy" edition going spare?
toneknob replied to Dood's topic in General Discussion
Are they the same apart from the magazine title on the cover? As a UK subscriber to what used to be the US Bass Player, it now seems like I get a UK magazine with a US title shipped back to the UK. -
How was the non-PG material?

Good intit! When I grow up I want to be a Morris Dancing straw man.
-
A friend is in the Abingdon Morris Men side. I can't see him in this dance, but he's in recent facebook pics and more memorably in this pastoral slice of joy, clearly a major influence on Sam Mendes, Alfonson Cuaron and Alejandro Inarritu and that lot. (my friend is behind and to the left of the singer when she first becomes obvious)

Juan is awesome, hope he pulls through. Seen him a bunch of times with The Mars Volta. Got to meet him at an Earthquaker demo at Wunjo, where he was gracious and humble towards a fan's gushing over the intro to Day Of The Baphomets (me). Also his pedalsandeffects.com site is hugely helpful in directing my effects research/spends.

Yes, but you don't have to is the quick answer. On the other hand... What you get with a 13th chord is a whole host of chord tones. Have a look at C13. From root upwards in thirds that's C, E, G, Bb, D, F, A (root, 3rd, 5th, b7th, 9th, 11th, 13th respectively). Yes you can play all the notes of a mixolydian mode over that, but that's not helping much in terms of outlining the harmony as the song plays along, and that's a big part of our job as bass player right? Check out some of the triads you've got in that selection of notes. As well as C major, and C7, which will help you out big time, you've also got for example Bbmaj7 (Bb, D, F, A), Dm (D, F, A), Gm (G, Bb, D) and probably loads more. Chuck in a few of these triads instead of something based on C and you might start hearing some jazz. Or, alternate a couple of triad pairs (Am and Dm for example) and see what happens. To maybe even elicit an approving nod/raised eyebrow from your keyboard player, lets pretend you've got a #11 in there instead of a 11. Then you get to switch between triad pairs C7 and D7 for example or even you've got Bb-D-F#, the triad based on the third mode of the melodic minor scale, which opens doors to all kinds of excitement. (Bilbo will be along any moment to correct me on this paragraph) Remember there are no bad notes, just bad resolutions.

This is my go-to resource when working out what does and doesn't work in walking bass.

Your strap is twisted. Whichever way you turn it first to untwist it will be the wrong way.

Can't remember the original question, but get some Richard Sinclair in as well. Incidentally, many of these prog bassists - eg Squire, Wetton, Sinclair, others = all have a chorister/church-based musical beginning. There's the origins of your contrapuntal multi-part harmony thingy.

I've got the Ketron K8 pedal board, I used them for a while to do bass pedals when I was in a Genesis trib (then I found a Moog Taurus I and traded up). I hooked up mine to a Novation Bass Station and they did a good - albeit basic - job. They sure don't have the heft of a Moog Taurus 3 so if your chap is heavy-footed, might be best to tape them down.

London Calling P Bass On Show At Museum Of London.
toneknob replied to Hobbayne's topic in General Discussion
The Museum of Music in Barcelona has a Ricky 4001 that's newer than my Ricky 4001. Which made me and my bass feel quite old
