1. This is the thread for you: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=36625
 2.
This holy grail of tone is an on going search, which is why I think, preamp manufacturer Avalon named their company in such a way. Good tone is a multi million pound business, we as musicians are always striving for the best but it really doesn't exist. I've been in arenas, where the bassist has had an Ampeg SVT and it has sounded divine, others have sounded like rubbish. I've been in pubs where the bassist has had a Peavey TKO and it was the most gourgeous, in your face and stomach bass sound I have ever heared. I've heared others with state of the art amps sound like somebody clicking a pen in a cellar and others, sound like the earth is splitting with the total magnitude of bass excellence. Best advice I can give is, when your singer and guitars, other instruments, are swaying from side to side and bobbing their heads up and down, then you have a good bass sound put it close to your ear and make sure it makes your pants move.
You raise an interesting point. I've had the same experience both as a listener and during my own gigs. There have been so many times when I've thought, 'why am I even bothering with an amp?' because as soon as I'm on stage the volume is so loud that it doesn't even seem to matter whether I'm using my amp or just going through the PA. Same goes for times when I've been in the audience. Every large gig I've been to the bassist could have just been playing through any old amp. And yet I still find myself buying nice expensive amps. Maybe it's a sort of placebo effect?
 3.
You have to realise that you are dealing with quite a few "dinosaurs" that frequent this place wink.gif EDIT:_ forget to mention - if you don't own a Fender (preferably one older than your parents), this is maybe not the place to be - it's a prejudice thing tongue.gif
Come on. You accuse others of being trolls and then you say stuff like this. Besides Janek uses Fender gear, according to his wiki. Which he wrote himself.
 4. So if I've understood the site properly, it's a machine that sets up your guitar? Don't think I could fit that in my room tbh
 5.
I'll agree with you, even more when you have a decent squier going for £200. Maybe they should have considered the price a bit better.
To be fair, they're $499 in the US so the usual 'take the dollar sign and replace it with a pound sign' has happened over here. Actually, that's still quite a lot.
 6.
I don't know the price but I like the concept, Cheap bass, shocking looks, either if you like it or not, and overall a decent bass to start with.
Having had a look around (which was a bit difficult becuase not many places seem to stock them) the prices seem to £300+ for the junior versions and £400+ for the big ones. That's at least twice what I'd consider to be a beginners budget.
 7.
Just out of interest, has anyone had their bass Plek'd? If so, has it made much difference?
I don't even know what that is
 8. Perhaps I should elaborate before people start moaning. Conceptually, it's supposed to be a cheap quality beginners bass that anyone can get. However it's priced way out of the beginners bracket so it fails there. I think it looks hideous, some may not. Sound wise, there's nothing distinct about it and it could be any cheapo bass you could pick up for less than 100 quid.
 9. Looks terrible, sounds terrible and as a concept, it's terrible. Terrible bass.
 10.
Problem for me is that because my action is so low, smooth and fast, and the bass is so responsive to every touch, when I play another bass which pretty much always has a higher setup, I sound awful. I feel like my hands are numb or something! I guess I am crap at playing any other bass than my own!! Quite interesting to note how different people play though - I play REALLY lightly and my friend Chris really digs in. It sounds great, too - but we are useless on each other's basses!! I can't get this sound without my action - light trebly click with smooth deep defined bass, badly played: http://dl-client.getdropbox.com/u/85432/US...%27s%20Wrap.mp3 Cheers ped
That's what I loved about your old Bacchus. It's the only bass I've ever had that I could play really lightly and still get the same tone that you get when you dig in. I'm generally quite a heavy player so it was really nice. Why oh why didn't they make a 4 string version?
 11.
When I use a pick, it's a Dunlop 1mm black nylon. I sometimes use a thick brass one, gets a really gritty sound as it scrapes on the string windings -- it's like a hand-held overdrive pedal
It was the scraping that I didn't like about those picks when I had one, I felt like I was sawing through my strings with it! And to answer the question I use Dunlop Tortex picks
 12. Forgot to add, I thought the semi-para eq was really good. It's quick and easy to dial in what sort of sound you want. I could live without the compressor though.
 13. Not your specific combination but I had a nemesis 2x12 combo and it was absolutely cracking, probably one of the best amps I've owned (and I've owned eden,GK, Trace Elliot stuff). The cabs are very, very light (in comparison to others), I could carry my combo with one hand! 2x12's are awesome too
 14.
Oh yessssssssss! Ever compared it to a V6, sound-wise? I find my Twin has a nicer tone to my V-type pre/QSC power rig in a way I can't really describe, but it's not really a fair comparison, and the latter is far more useful both for DI-ing (Twin hasn't got a balanced XLR out) and backline.
Hah, I don't actually have one sorry! I did used to own that V4 combo that seems to have now had a lot of owners on here. That was a bit of beast although stupidly heavy and broke up too easily.
 15. Sorry fella, you're about a year too late! I'm in Liverpool too I can tell you that they're very punchy, very clean sounding if that helps at all.
 16.
No Fodera could dial in the signature tone of an Encore Argos bass.
The waiting lists are huge too. I mean, it just feels like forever sitting in that chair, looking at the screen waiting for your number to come up. Worth every second for such a quality instrument though.
 17. I'd say that they're worth about fifty pounds. If you like I can come and pick it up from you now?
 18.
Personally, i think they should take some pointers from top gear. Sting, Phill Colins and Lemmy in the holiday inn, how quick can you trash your hotel room with photos. Can Paul Mcartney still carry his bass rig up 5 flight of stairs. Can Chris Squire play roundabout after 10 pints of lager and a curry Bass player or Guitarist, who can service the most groupes in an hour. Ring and task master TBBC
Good work
 19.
A zillion sound clips of the new 25th anniversary here: http://www.bassemporium.com/newsletters.php
I quite like that actually. Waaay to many tonal options for me though. Props to them for trying something new, they look to be expanding the line a fair bit.
 20.
Edit - attached - hope it works I want a Quatra!
Pfft, real men want a hexa!
 21.
Umm... a little unfair, don't you think? Alaskans have feelings too. Might I suggest here instead?
So it's pride of place is with child rapists then?
 22.
Nothing posted twice at this end.......
That's strange, I'm seeing you post the same thing at 10:45 and then at 10:50 Has the forum just broken or something?
