1.
A 'Bass' Drum generally refers to the largest drum in an orchestra.
True, but it's VERY rare to be in an orchestra that has percussion including said 'bass' drum AND a drum kit, so it's very rare that such a distinction is needed... Personally, I think you're right though. The drum on a kit should be referred to as a 'kick' drum. Also makes things easier when you're labelling up the PA and/or recording desk because you can have 'bass' and 'kick'... To conclude. Drummers are idiots!
 2.
Go on, name the shop. That way people can avoid it and reward the good shops with their business.
I'm going to guess it was Sounds Live? Wouldn't suprise me. I once went in there when buying my first bass. I had £1000 in cash to spend and as I walked through the door I overheard one of the guys whisper to a colleague 'another kid coming to try his luck on an expensive instrument!'... I asked to try a Warwick (which in hindsight would NOT have been the bass for me anyway!) and the guy said 'Take your belt off and you can. We don't want it scratching the bass, because we've got to sell it at some point'... I didn't say a word and just walked out. Went up to GuitarGuitar and bought a Geddy. Walked back down to Sounds Live and had a look around with new bass in hand. The guy who had previously been a total tool even had the cheek to say "So, what you been buying then?".... I appreciate that in the grand scheme of things, a sub-£1000 sale doesn't make much difference to that kind of shop, but that was money in his competitors till and he still didn't even seem to care when I told him what I'd bought just up the road and he realised I would have been up for buying the Warwick.
 3.
Dude, to my knowledge, prices should not be discussed in public like that. Any issues should be adressed via PM. Forum rules if i remember ok...
Prices should be discussed via PM if the you want to challenge the price with the seller. I, however, was responding to seller's question 'is this priced too high...' in a previous post in order to try and give the seller some feedback in an attempt to try and aid the sale of the item. No offence or harm intended to the seller/sale.
 4.
Pretty much this. I can only speak for myself, but when I'm playing I'm not thinking "A7...A,C#,E,G" or whatever. I've spent enough time studying and playing that I know how the chords are constructed and how to recognise II-V-I and that kind of thing so I can just get on with playing without consciously thinking about every detail. Of course there are times, usually when I'm soloing, where I might think "Oooh,I can play this really cool Lydian lick I've been practising",but generally I don't want to be thinking about every little detail.
I agree. I liken playing jazz (musically) to reading words. At the start, you break everything down (I.e C-a-t) and then gradually you start seeing words rather than letters and eventually, not just the words but the context too. That's when you can start adding creativity, when you can see the bigger picture. It's also the reason why musicians often view music as an expressive language. There are a lot of similarities. Similarly the idea of remembering a set of music is similar to an actor memorising a script and being able to add their own spin to something that has been done before. It's a different kind of creativity in that context IMO, although I do think that both are skills that can be taught/learnt. The spark of creativity is what sets the true jazz legends apart from the everyday jazz player.
 5. I would say the price is too high. £140 plus p& p. Might as well pay a bit more for a new one and have someone to deal with/replace it under warranty if any issues pop up IMO.
 6.
Wow! That is as sexy as Tulisa's sex tape!
7. As long as its not the fishy one! (number 3)
 8. Any chance of this bass but with pearloid block inlays? That would incredible!
 9. Taken today - 1994 CIJ Fender '62 RI Jazz (Non-Export)
 10.
Yes! Specifically a USA 70s P + SVT CL + 8X10.
Great combination for sound and coincidentally, also the best combination for a life-time of back problems!
 11. Is it really bad that when I saw the photo of your magnificent bass wall, the first thought that went through my head was 'Wow! A strap for every bass! Now THAT is something to aspire to!'
 12. Lady Madonna! Great up-tempo tune and nicely written
 13. Guitarguitar have dropped the price of US Standard Strats/Teles to £799. Clearly an attempt to shift stock to make room for new stuff. It appears that all stores with a Fender dealership will have similar instructions (as Fender want all dealers to only stock the higher priced 2012 stock) so hopefully some room to haggle with the lesser discounted basses and we can possibly get some 'bargains'!
 14.
In fairness, it's described as having 'minor marks and scratches' and the seller says he won't accept a return for those stated reasons. The fact that the item was actually described as a bass and turned out to be a guitar instead doesn't come under the 'minor marks and scratches' exclusion.
Oh, I know that. All I'm saying is that if a seller puts 'we wont accept returns for X reason' it's dodgy... Combine that with a stock image of a bass and a description that is clearly meant for a guitar spells trouble.
 15. I should have been clearer. The fact that the description discusses '5 way pickup selector' etc and clearly describes a guitar, but has a title mentioning bass and s picture that is clearly just a stock from google images would set alarm bells ringing. Combined with the 'this is why we can not accept any returns' bullsh!t, I would have steered WELL clear.
 16.
Yup. I know the description disagrees completely, but I figured it was just a copy and paste job, seeing as it refers to a different finish entirely. Behold it's majesty: http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1439.l2649 Is that not a bass guitar being advertised? Does it not have four strings and a long neck?
To be fair, the only thing that suggests it is a bass is the stock picture. Everything else SCREAMS guitar!
 17. Harvest straps are super comfy! Cost about £40 delivered and made from good quality leather http://www.harvest-guitar.com/en/Straps-for-Guitar-and-Bass/Strap-short-adjustable-from-102-127-cm/
 18. New US standard strats/teles are going to priced at about £1100-1199. New prices for the American Deluxe series too... £1300 ish! So i guess the bass prices will see a similar jump in price.
 19.
I actually like to think my tones ARE the donkey's bollocks - big, sturdy, durable, and can survive pounding the sands of chav towns day in and day out, even if I am a slave in a stupid hat.
Unlike MM's tone, which sounds like Robocop taking a cheese grater to his genitalia! Painful. Clanky. Mindless. Totally unnecessary.
 20.
that bass tone most certainly sucks donkey bollocks bigtime.
Best. Quote. Ever.
 21. Nearly forgot to add... Traben. Truly vile basses.
 22.
He has the best tone you could wish for.
He has the best tone YOU could wish for... He has the tone I have nightmares about...
 23.
How would you describe soul?
Screw soul... The dude needs a decent tone before worrying about soul! Great player almost ruined by a poor tone IMO.
 24. Answer is simple... All lefties are Muppets!
 25. Have to agree with BigRedX... A good engineer gets a good sound regardless. Ive never had a problem with engineers and flats before, but if the engineer is struggling with your flats, surely you wouldnt just accept a crap sound. You would explain how youve gotten a good sound with flats before and take control of/responsibility for your sound. But again, that problem shouldnt occur, because a good engineer wont have a problem with it.
