I'd rather watch Karaoke (which is essentially a cheesy track with someone singing for fun, comfortable with the knowledge that they are awful!) than watch a truly average covers/tribute/cliche band strut around like they're the next big thing with egos to match and a total disregard for the punters who are paying their wages.

Pino Palladino solo transcription, Brown Sugar by D'Angelo
skej21 replied to Jazzjames's topic in Theory and Technique
Nice! Any chance you got the dots? I'm doing this with a band and would love to have a look at pino's licks and this particular arrangement! -
I've already told them that I want an equal share in the song writing credits seeing as I helped write the songs and they are planning on releasing the album I helped record. But I wouldn't be suprised if they tried to screw me over about that as well.
You got any proof that you wrote them? Any notes/tabs/lead sheets/documented music or recordings that you can proof pre-date the release of the album (I.e. dated postage to yourself or copyright dating)? If not, they will definitely just screw you out of anything you're owed. Luckily for most record labels (unlucky for the musicians), it's the original bands that tend to get caught up in the romance of being in a band with their mates, writing songs they love and having fun who forget to protect their contribution to the band. This makes them very easy to replace.

You should have gone for something a bit more razzle-dazzle... It is your 40th after all!
I know, my Blue Ray 5 was bought on it. 9 months of easy 0% payments are easy to get past the missus.
To be fair, most places offer a scheme similar to the take it away scheme if you're over 25, you just have to pay 4.9% interest. On a £1000 bass, that's only an extra £49 which would only be an extra £4.08 per month (for repayments over 12 months) which I don't think is too bad and is a great way to get a bit of money knocked off the bass to cover that cost (I.e. 'I'd happily take the bass today if you can take the £49 off the bass price so that I've essentially taken the credit at 0%). Also, most places over 0% interest finance options now to keep up with the competition, but you'll only know if you ask.

Most young virtuoso drummers and bassists sound the same as eachother

Make all students pay a lesson in advance (double fee for first lesson) which is non refundable if they cancel without 24 hours notice. In addition, make it clear that you have lots of students wanting to take lessons and if they miss more than 3 lessons at short notice in a specified time period (mine is 2 months) that it would be considered unreasonable and you'll remove them from your list of students. Simple.

Up for sale is my Korg DTR1000 Rack Tuner. I bought this from a fellow basschatter about two years ago and it has been rackmounted and rarely used ever since. As a result, it is still in fantastic condition. I've checked the forum for recent sale prices and feel that SOLD (including P&P via a next day courier service) is fair and will be looking for a straight sale. I would be happy to discuss reasonable offers. Here's a link to the blurb; http://www.korg.co.uk/products/tuners/dtr1000/tu_dtr1000.asp ...And a couple of pictures. Thanks for looking
The Streamliners are VERY different to the Shuttles so I wouldn't dismiss it without trying
Maybe so, but as part of the deal I'd have to use both the GB head and the cabs. I was equally unhappy with the cabs as the head, so I'll be kindly refusing.
Sounds like you should of tried the Streamliner then
Maybe lol. I'm pretty sure it's not for me though. Shame really, as it would have been nice to have the deal but Im not one for using gear that isn't suited to me.

Thanks for all the input guys! A great helps as always. Quick update for anyone who is interested. I got the shuttle 6.2-210T combo in the end, making it fully clear that I wanted to spend a bit of time with it before making any decisions. I spent a few hours with it and couldn't really get on with it. The power was great but I couldn't find the same tone that I like from my existing set up (mainly due to the lower mids, I think)... Next day I had a bit of a mix and match session. Tried the Genz head with my Aggy cab, a mate's Mark Bass cab and an old peavey cab I'm holding for another friend. Swapped a number of heads into the Genz cab too and couldn't get it right, even putting my Tonehammer in line to the Genz Benz head to see if that would help. Ended up settling for MY rig over the Genz Benz and being happy again. The Genz Benz gear was amazing and I wouldn't want to put anyone off. Size, weight, power and (if it's your cup of tea) the EQ will be perfect for someone but they were just not for me. They have since been collected and returned to be passed on to a more loving (and probably worthy!) home.

Changing the sound of a Jazz bridge pickup
skej21 replied to The Dark Lord's topic in General Discussion
After reading this (and having the same problems in the past) I would agree with dincz. I changed to flats on my '62 RI and it's so much warmer and has more thump but still keeps all of the things I like about the traditional jazz tone. Try it. You can always swap back with minimal effort (unlike switching pickups etc) Hope you work it out though! -
Another +1 for the Shuttle here, but money no object you'll probably get more flexibility from the Streamliner, has both valve and FET preamps and valve EQ (Shuttle EQ is SS).
Damn! There are too many options.
go try them, where are you based? If you are close to Portsmouth i believe Nevada Music has a small range of Genz gear, but for the best selection try Mark at Bass Direct.
I'm based up near York/Leeds. Fortunately, I'll be getting the gear direct through the rep at work and can swap/return if I'm not happy, so I shouldn't need to travel to test them. Just wanted to get a rough idea before I take the plunge. Looks like the Shuttle 6.2-210T combo is the winner at the moment!

Cheers for the reply Pete! I've watched plenty of Ed Friedland but I'm finding it difficult to judge considering I've not heard stuff 'in the flesh' so to speak. I really like the look of the Shuttle 6.2-210T combo or maybe the 2 x 10 cab from the Contour 500 series. Still feeling indecisive though...

Been talking to our contacts through work and have managed to line up an endorsement (of sorts) for some Genz Benz gear. He's asked me to get back to him with the stuff I want but I've only ever played a Shuttle 9.0 head through a couple of Aggy cabs, so basically don't have a lot of firsthand experience so was hoping to get your opinions. Basically, just want to know what the standout Genz Benz amps/cabs are and what you guys think of them! Ideally, I want something around the 500-600 watt mark, cab and head. Either that, or a smaller combo for smaller gigs. Thanks in advance!

Four days of intense double bass that you've never played before? Plus a full gig on it? It can be done, but your hands are going to be very sore from that situation! Rather you than me
