1.
I couldn't tell it from the Arse flavoured ale.
There's an arse flavoured ale? ...and you tried it?
2. Robinson brewery make an Elbow flavoured ale too http://www.elbowbeer.co.uk/about/#
3. I feel it's appropriate that we now start a topic specifically for pictures of kitchens taken with a fisheye lens.
4.
Look no further than our very own Bass Doc for all your pickguard needs. Drop him a PM and he'll sort you out for a very, very reasonable cost. Cheaper than Jeanie's, I'll bet.
Will do! I've just noticed he left a comment on my wanted ad for a scratch plate.
5. Looks like Jeanies it is then I've taken the white scratch plate off it and I think a black plate is the way to go on this one for me. I said to my girlfriend "What do you reckon, white plate or imaginary black plate?" and she said "I don't like the white, but what about a pink sparkly one?".
6. If you can find a Lakland 5501 for under £500 you'd be on a winner I think, I'm not sure it's possible to find a better sounding low B than that for under £500. I'm also a big fan of the Yamaha TRB series, i've got one of the newer TRB 6 string basses and it's a great bass, the build quality of these basses is outstanding for how much they can be picked up for. Which Streamer 5 string did you have? Are there any qualities of that bass you'd hope to find in an alternative?
7. It's good to see someone in the UK stocking them
8. Meshuggah - Stengah is up there for me, it springs to mind when I think of heavy riffs anyway. I also agree that the riff at the end of Diamond Eyes is monsterously heavy.
9. Helluva good album! I've had it since it came out last November and I seem to find something new I like about it on every listen. Graphic Nature is a really stand out track to me, I really like Goon Squad too - that track reminds me of what I used to really like about Deftones back in the day.
10. Does anyone know where my best bet is to get a scratch plate from? - Is it jeannies?
11.
Love it. Quite fancying a DJ 4 myself. To go with my Bob Glaub
I had a pang of GAS for a Bob Glaub this morning, they look great and judging by how much I like the feel of the DJ basses I think a Glaub would be right up my street.
12. Cheers guys I actually do like the white plate more than I thought I would, however, it's seeing this bass that made me realise I'd like to change it... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/33216-lakland-darryl-jones-4-blackblackmaple/
13. This ere' DJ4 arrived yesterday, it required a thorough setup when it arrived but now it's playing sweeet! My original intention was to get a DJ4 and then sell the DJ5, but they're totally different basses and I'm enjoying them for different reasons. The DJ4 has Lakland pickups and sounds punchier than the DJ5 which has Aeros, however the DJ5 has a J-Retro which is a mighty pre-amp. I've been veering away from active basses in the last couple of years but the J-Retro has been quite an eye opener, the variance in tones I can get from that bass is impressive. I need to get the white scratch plate off this bass though, not my cuppa tea! Does anyone have a DJ4 scratch plate ideally in black or just in a darker colour that they'd like to sell or swap?
14. I'd like to recommend a luthier who's been keeping my basses and guitars healthy since I can remember. I've seen some of major repair jobs he's done over the years and his work is very impressive, you can see some pictures of before/after headstock breaks etc on a Facebook page that he's recently started: Phil Dexter based in Plymouth tel: 07884061412 https://www.facebook.com/GuitarTech
15. How many hours practice per day do you think is 'serious'?
16.
I'm nearly 50 now, I'd rather just write and play.
I'm 27 and I'd rather just write and play There's only 2 reasons why I might practice: if i've come up with an idea that I have trouble playing or I'm going to record something, just because I have little patience when it comes to sitting around in studios and I don't want to be doing loads of takes.
17. This should be in the ebay forum (obviously) unless there are prices listed
18.
Arguably, yes, you're right, but listen to players like Sharay Reed. One of the best players alive (IMO of course!) and plays on extremely cheap gear.
I thought he'd played an Fender American Deluxe Jazz?
19. I use a Radial Bassbone, it's not going to colour the sound in the way a Sansamp does, however it has a really nice clean tone to it. It sounds good on recordings too. http://www.tonebone....tb-bassbone.htm
20. This has probably been mentioned on here before numerous times, but I always begrudge the price of batteries in supermarkets so if I remember to I try to stock up - I've just bought a pack of 9v batteries this morning and I'd forgotten how cheap they can be online: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-Duracell-9V-Procell-Batteries-MN1604-6LR61-PP3-block-/160507757092?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_Batteries_SM&hash=item255f020224 There's nothing more annoying than hearing your bass fart out it's dying note at a rehearsal, or even worse, on stage.
21. This is the first I've heard of these, some demo videos here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5772xfxc52E&list=UUDR7U1tBeQMGBToik9RsfDw
22. Dread Bass, I can see from your sig that you own a few basses, the honest thing to do would be to add a P bass to that collection. I don't think you'd be disappointed because it would add a completely different kind of thing to your collection.
23. Flippin' eck... the difference a nice pic and a white pick guard can make Good work sir, I imagine that pickup combo sounds really good.
24. Bargain
25. It's the quality and feel of Lakland instruments that does it for me, which seems to be something you can't rely on with Fender. Nothing beats an old mojo'd Fender though
