1. 2nd appearance! Top-of-the-line acoustic bass from those nice Warwick folks. Comes in its original deluxe gig bag, with folder which houses a cloth, the manual, truss rod tool and another small Allen key (not sure what that does!) and the neck heel strap lock, ready for its new owner to fit where needed. Never gigged, but has done a radio session. Totally unmarked. Trade options:American Special Precisiom, maple, CAR, with cash my way. 5-string US Precision, maple, any colour, with case, straight swap. Price DOES NOT include any delivery. Pickup in person, or I will meet if possible and not too far. However, I will probably be in Lincoln over the 21/22/23 February if that's any use to anyone. Otherwise, it's West Devon! Grab yourself a bargain! 2. As I already said ^^^, those pickups will do that. But the stock pickups may well sound great, especially with the TIs.
3. Tascam trainers.
4. Here for sale is my bitsa P-bass Special: Price now £200 delivered! Specs: Body and pickguard are Squier. Neck is a Mighty Mite Jazz. P pickups is a Squier VM (from a new fretless model). J pickup is a Wizard 64 Electrics by KiOgon Other hardware is Squier (bridge) and Mexican Fender (everything else. Plays well, and sounds good, with a reasonable pickup balance for a PJ. Include a good Fender gig bag, and free delivery, in a proper box! Not interrested in trades, unless you have a really nice Allparts maple Jazz neck, with black blocks and binding!
5. If you replace the pickups, go for Original Fender or Duncan SPB1 traditional. IMHO the QPs are overated. For slightly hotter, the Duncan SPB2s are good also. But try it out properly first.you might like it completely stock.
6.
I exclusively play flats now on all my basses, fretted or not. <saladfingers> "Its a treat for the fingerrrrrrsss" </saladfingers>
This. And it sounds better.
7. Well, I've played all Fenders up to AmStd and there's good and bad at all levels. My current gigging bass is a Frankenstein of Squire and American Special. Previous to that, I gigged a MIM for 9 years and about 600 gigs. This bass is still working as backup. After recent experience, I'd say buy what you want for the various parts and cobble a personal Fender together. My two are Precision. With Jazz necks.
8. I would suggest something entirely separate for home practice, like one of the Tascam devices. Then you can get a Markbass CMD121H.
9. +1. These are Wilkinson HWJB200 tuners.
10. Nice!
11. That's quite wonderfully abstract!
12. Utterly cool thread - nice one, Andy!
13. Relicing = naff.
14.
Well this is probably the sweetest voice I have heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuglvdPZ-JU
Easily the best.
15. Why? Makes no sense. Just use it.
16. I guarantee that no one has ever detected any flex in a Fender BBOT. For the fairly simple reason is that it isn't a bent bit of tin. With the heaviest strings possible, you might tear it off the bass. If strung through, that would no longer be possible.
17. The only difference i can see is that you do not need a substantial bridge, because the bridge is doing none of the work in anchoring the string. To me, that explains the lightweight bridge of the earliest Precisions. That's all that was needed. And Leo NEVER did more than was needed.
18. Well, once more I've been at them all with the screwdrivers. It's costing me a fortune in TI JAzz flats... Everything is now back to stock. So Now I have a stock American Special Jazz, a stock Squier VM Fretless Precision (okay, new pickup...), and as near to stock as I can 2003/4 MIM Precision, the Old Faithful. And then I found I liked the Jazz. I don't like Jazz Basses. I've come to adore the A neck, but just never liked the look or tone of the thing. be that as it may, I've found myself gigging this damed thing and liking it! Except for one thing. I prefer the old tone circuit to the Greasebucket. The reason for the post, quite possibly silly: should I mod the Greasebucket out? And if so, what would be a good tone cap? Any of you have favourites? Or should I simply stick to the vintage values? Please help this Precision bloke who's teeth-gritting conversion to the Jazz is causing LOTS of pain. And joy!
19. Great NYE gig on home turf at the Mary Tavy Inn. 3 solid hours broken by 25 minutes for midnight. Phew! Happy New Year, one and all!
20. May need a setup like this for a project. Any thoughts? Definitely flats, but I can't detune TI Jazz Flats that far and have them sound reasonable.
21. All mine are essentially parts basses now. My main one consists of a Squier VM body and an Allparts maple black blocks neck. It's sunburst with tort and fitted with an SD SPB-2 pickup. It weighs just under 7lbs and sounds great. Following closely is my old faithful 2003/4 MIM P body, wearing an American Special Jazz neck. Maple/black/black. They both do what they are supposed to and I never have any complaints about the sound!
22. My gig was great, but rather wet. In a marquee at this time of year, in this weather = much drippiness...
23. Howdy!
