1. Offered is a set of Squier tuners from my VM Fretless Precision. I've stuck on a set of Wilkinson HWJB200s, so these are spare. As new, barely used, and with a completely new and unused set of bushes and screws. £20.00 posted/offers?
2.
I get your thinking but I'm less sure he would feel that way. Much of what I've read of him tells me his priority was to build useful instruments for working musicians in a changing - esp re. broadcasting - world and thinking of the US market in particular where you may be gigging/touring hundreds of miles from home and need to be able to call in a music shop one afternoon and buy replacement parts to fix your instrument yourself and be playing again that night. Someone already mentioned the great idea of an instrument that guitar players could play to get more jobs. I doubt , though , he was immune to seeing how the use of his products evolved - and Fender's re-design of the original Precision and introduction of the Jazz reflects the desire to feed that evolution with more versatile instruments. A guy like that would likely latch on to folk ripping the frets from their instruments in a desire to get a very different sound and wish to be a part of that movement , in my opinion anyway.
What I meant was that he'd not have have used that model with that name, because the very name meant frets. If he'd been around a while longer, i CAN imagine he'd have turned out a fretless Jazz.
3.
I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that, due to delays in producing the first basses, Fender fitted a switchable (bigger) capacitor into Teles so they could be played with much less treble and sound more bassy.
It wasn't due to delays in production - it was put in before he thought of the bass.
4. Bump! *Might* consider trade for a post-2008 American Special Precision with cash my way, must be maple, hence black or candy apple red. Must be in splendid condition!
5. Myke just bought my AmSpl Jazz, a very easy and friendly transaction. Many thanks! Den
6. And another +1 for wide straps!
7. The part you're all missing here is that by 1970, Leo was completely out of the picture, and Don Randall was no longer the hands-on guy he'd been before, purely due to the way CBS ran their organisation. I doubt Leo would ever have sanctioned a fretless Precision - it would have made no sense.
8. Well, I'm in the process of slimming down my small armoury. I always considered 3 the bare minimum, so that if one broke, I could still take 2 to a gig. Now I still have 3, but for different jobs. A P, a fretless P, and an acoustic of some description. The rest will be leaving.
9. Thanks, Fionn. TTT!
10. And sold subject to the usual...
11. Sling Strap for heavier instruments, or if you simply want the bass to feel lighter. Works well; I managed a 14lb bass using this - but not too often! For a more normal weight, it goes a long way in lightening the load. A possible downside is that you can't get the instrument to paly high - it's always going to be about waist level, give or take. Includes delivery.
12. Bump for a half-price beauty!
13. Back up for sale is my American Special Jazz. Lovely bass, light for a Jazz at 8lb 12oz. Super slim neck with graphite support. Bass is completely stock. Has the Greasebucket tone circuitry. Condition: good. neck is fine, no dings. Body is a bit reliced, in the wear-and-tear sense. Couple of dings on the front, and one on the edge. All but the one on the edge are by previous owner! Light rash on back, plenty of it but not deep. Again, not my doing. Currently wearing TI Jazz Flats. Will come with a Warwick Rockbag which is a bit worn but completely sound. £350, pickup preferred. Will post at the best price I can get if not. Grab yourself a USA bargain!
