dave74200 started following Squier JV Precision Bass 1983 in Excellent Condition
-
Back up for sale as I changed my mind but am now commited to selling..... It's still a tough decision though! An outstanding example of a 57 Precision bass reissue, made in Japan in 1983. The JV serial number tells you that this is an excellent instrument that will only rise in value. It is in excellent condition, all original and plays and sounds utterly outstanding. No issues at all, apart from a few small scratches, which would be totally expected on a 42 year old bass. The neck plays like butter and overall feels like a Custom Shop bass. Has that classic P bass tone. Reverse tuners. Priced to sell quickly as I need the funds. Comes with gig bag. Collect from Barry in South Wales as I wouldn't want to post. Can try out at my home and I'm very confident first to try would buy! Will consider part ex for road worn bass, with cash my way.

Stub Mandrel started following Fret buzz as a beginner
-
Sorry, I find that highly ambiguous. The arrows are drawn in the same plane as the truss rod and Allen key... so it's possible to interpret those arrows as meaning either direction. If you see it as looking into the end of the truss rod along the allen key, it suggests anti-clockwise as tighten.
-
Just turn it back, there’s no harm done. i always place a mark with a pencil so i always know where i started.
-
Just look right on top of the bold, then it doesn’t matter if you adjust the trussrod from the headstock or the body, in all cases left/counterclockwise or right/clockwise is correct.
-
Some "I guess you would call it Fusion stuff" with my beloved Leduc Maurad 6.
-
aw shit by now I already followed the diagram and turned clockwise, hope I didn't mess it up and can reverse it without issue
-
A mess??? Simple directions. Left to right is as simple as it gets. Clockwise or anticlockwise is more confusing because looking at the bass or headstock face-on, as per the diagram has no meaning., especially to a beginner. Essentially. You have convoluted this thread making it difficult to follow, as you're saying NO, to my directions, which you then agree are correct. The mess is being caused by you, not understanding your left from right.

We had a gig in a tiny tiny pub. I'd gigged there before. It's a pain unloading as the pub is in a really narrow street, not much wider than a car itself and the set up area is compact 🙂. Despite me warning the rest of the pub's quirky location and size, or lack of, they were still a little gobsmacked when they saw the reality 🤣🤣 We had a fun gig, lovely pub, lovely crowd (I say crowd in its loosest term considering aforementioned size), we played well and will get asked back. Result.

Used my new rig with my PBass at a jam session with a loud drummer and guitarist playing rock It sounded very punchy and loud using just one cab and I’m very pleased with it. Those cabs are amazing weighing 11kg !! Incredible So thus far I’m very pleased I’m back playing again -
I got it at GAK March 2024 as an early birthday present - I sorted it out through one of the staff there Ryan who I had a few email conversations with about it. My local luthier set it up for me with the new strings and the old ones are included. I assume it was made in late 23 or very early 24 as it’s a newer model and relatively recent addition to the Hofner range. I’ve enclosed pictures of the booklet which has the matching serial number to the inside label - you can even see the name of the craftsman handwritten on the label. Hofner really know how to make something special. I’m sure Hofner would be able to find the exact date for you if needed.

Loosening is anti clockwise. Tightening is clockwise. Just always look at the top of the bold. Be a bit careful with tightening, the wood needs to have time to work, so never tighten more than 1/4 to 1/2 turn a day… succes!
-
NO! Loosening is ALWAYS anticlockwise (except for the rare left thread)! See what you did @JJMotown !?!

Bygone music/bass shops you were fond of?
Mediocre Polymath replied to kiat's topic in General Discussion
I don't think that was the same place. County Music was the one on the left as you were walking up towards the castle, right? – quite a wide, double fronted shop with keyboards and a separate room full of acoustics, yes? This one was on the right, on the junction with (checks Google maps) Rosemary Lane. It might have only been there for a few years. It was there when I started undergrad in 2004, therefore it had always been there as far as I knew. County Music was also great though. That was where I bought the Yamaha BB604 that was my main bass for several years (£180 second-hand!). -
So in your diagram loosening is clockwise whereas others said counterclockwise?
-
I mean if you want to try a C4/MXR/Fi4 this is hardly the forum to be discouraged and can be fun to try

Bygone music/bass shops you were fond of?

I've probably done this before but it's good therapy for me, please indulge me...you mentioned 5 or 6 shops in Birmingham, I'll list the music shops in Brum circa '82 to '85 when I was in my mid teens. Musical Exchanges, broad St initially then Snow Hill from '83 I think. George Clay on Broad St. Used to stock Polytone amps, wish I'd tried one. Jones and Crossland on Smallbrook Queensway. Part of the Black Sabbath saga. City music on Suffolk St Queensway. Woodroofes in Dale End, a second defunct shop on John Bright St. Birmingham Bass place, became the Bass centre. Originally by the Alexander theatre then Livery St. Yardleys on Colmore Row, mainly drums and brass. James Pass, smallbrook Queensway. Sheet music, pianos etc. Kay Westworth, Cherry St by Rackhams. Double Eagle necks and bodies, Schaller bridges and tuners. Cranes (?) Birmingham Centre at top of New Street station escalators. A few Sunn amps, new stock Betas etc. Fairdeal music, Digbeth high St. Green Lane music. Muzos on Hurst St. Great shop, got a v4b ( worked in a garden centre to fund it) aged 16 from there. Ex Woodroofes staff if I recall. Chase Music near to Lewis's Old square. Where I first saw Tokai fender copies I bet I've forgotten something. Great time to loaf around aimlessly with your mates. Modern life is rubbish. -
Ah yeah I remember that too, would have been around the mid 80s I think, all the basses were on the back end of the shop, I also used a studio just round the corner but can’t remember the name of it
-
We were 50/50 but working towards all originals. Every few gigs we'd drop a cover and replace with our own. Dave
-
Nope Maybe one or two that we tend to play with a synth style backing track, mainly Phil Wickham ones. But I was just curious of peoples experiences. Think I am just trying to justify to myself I should get something, but also for the wedding cover band I am in which it would be way more used. Not sure if my church is ready for it, I played a 5 string bass once and it seemed to blow their minds. Or maybe... that was just the first step. Seriously though, I agree with you all, I'm quite skeptical of it and when I did hear one live at a place I went to I found it super distracting. Like I was at a gig not church. Edit - didn't help they also had a smoke machine!!
