My MG Quantum 5 was expensive when I bought it new. I sold my piano, and used all my savings to buy it. In today's money it was nearly £5000. It was a good sounding bass, but since then I have played instruments that feel and suit me better. I sold it and bought an MG Genesis 5 here that may not look as fancy, but it feels so much better. That sure wasn't expensive because of its value to me, no matter the price! As there are very good used basses everywhere, I would seriously consider buying a bass that costs over £2000. I am not into vintage stuff at all, but a lightweight 5 string super long scale Overwater...

I promised I'd add some photographs of what I'm building, so here goes: Lightweight, compact ported 1x15 with an Eminence 150W speaker One of two BassChat 110's using Eminence 10" speakers VOX Phantom Bass Tibute build in progress. It started off intended to be a short scale but I also have a 34" sclae Jazz style neck so still contemplating which. Or even if it may end up as a Bass VI? I'm not up to building my own neck's, yet, but am working on it. I'm hoping the body will work out as I had to lay it out myself. I'm not sure about the headstock shape at the moment. Could be 2x2 or I've also designed somthing similar to the VOX. Twin locking footswitch for the effects on an Ashdown Rootmaster 800 1x12 cabinet using an un-branded bass speaker. Made this just for something to do and in order to prevent the speaker getting damaged kicking around the home studio. The "Home Studio", which is a room above the garage. There's been a few changes since this was taken, and a few more to come. The Peavey has been sold, and the Laney Richter RB8 will hopefully go as well. The 1x15 will come up and be used with a TC bass head, with one of the 1x10's and the Ashdown head as my travel rig and the other one left at my playing patners home studio. As I mentioned earlier, I've just bought a Fane 8" and will be building that into a BassChat eight inch cab which will probably replace the 1x10 used in the travelling rig making it even more portable. Hope I've not bored you too much with all of this, thanks for looking. David

IMO an expensive bass is one I can't afford. My main basses for the last 20 years have been used and in the £1200 - £1600 range. I got a lot of bass for that money. If I found an exceptional bass for more I'd seriously consider it. I've tried buying cheaper basses but so far they haven't matched up with my #1's and were sold pretty quickly.

My main squeeze is fretless, but occasionally I need something with the little speed bumps on it for a different sound. It does feel a bit weird then.

Good evening, Next one is the theme from Avishai Cohen "Continuo"; awesome piece to work on chords positions, 5/4 bars mixed with 4/4 ones ; and some tricky fingering to find for smooth result. Notice that Avishai plays it on a 5 strings bass with treble C. So i've lowered second part from one octave to be able to play it on 4 strings bass. I think I’d consider £1,000 as the threshold for me, based on the difficulty I’d have replacing something of that value. Mind you my cheap basses are also hard to replace as they’re all 20-odd years old. Just slightly less crippling financially if I needed to do so.

Now just £310.00. This amazing emulation of the acoustic control corporation 360 preamplifier with variamp and built in fuzz is up for grabs. Hand made by the renowned JC Maillet and commissioned and imported by myself at great cost. I have used the 360+ for studio recordings, gigs, rehearsals and at home, it has never dissapointed. The preamp sounds fantastic and the fuzz section is the best I have used. I have owned this pedal for a good few years from new, as can be seen it's in pristine condition. Specially sourced UK power supply also included. Will happily run from other sources with the right leads (I used it with a trex chameleon). Fully detailed printed instruction manual also included. Only available as I have more preamplifiers than I can use. Try out/collection always welcome, or UK insured postage for £15.00

I'm happy to take expensive basses (or what I consider expensive) out to just about anywhere. I just happen to have some basses that I categorise as expensive and others that I don't.

2x10 Build - couple of questions and driver recommendations?
doninphi replied to doninphi's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi mate. Thanks for the reply. To make the first 1x15 I chose the driver and used Internet calculators to make the cab basing it off a mark bass 1x15. As it was compact etc... The Internet calculators are OK for basic stuff. For this one I tried again to do the same but although I got some bits out I cant help thinking they aren't as good for 2 x speaker cabs where the details of a 1xspeaker cab numbers go into them well. The 1x15 is proof of that pudding as I'm happy with it but can't help thinking my luck might run out in the 2x10 Is there any chance you can pop my numbers into your software? I can't install that as it's a work laptop. See if you thjnk 2x bn10 200x 8 ohm will suit or if i need to hunt a different spec speaker? I'd really appreciate it. If I have to take the punt. I will haha. A 70ltr volume should be OK. I'll just mess with the port ideas till it sounds right. But your input might save me a lot of faff. Thanks Phil -

Yeah, my Sandberg that has medium relicing doesn’t have anything that looks like that on it.

I interpreted the question as what would be too expensive for me to buy. I think I would struggle to justify anything north of £3k because I would simply be too afraid to take it out of the house, and also the law of diminishing returns probably means paying large amounts for incremental differences once you get above this point.
