  1. Past hour
  2. Private Shop was on Boughton back in 1980ish... I remember the moaning in the Chester Chronicle. And me and Jock used to nip in there for amyl 😁
  3. No masking tape, it doesn’t seem to stain anything which is varnished but if the bass body was pale in colour I would’ve been careful not to get any on it. All I did was lay the bass on two flat cushions with a strip of kitchen towel on top of the cushions, cleaned the fretboard with lighter fluid and a microfibre cloth, then caked on the Montypresso with a rag and rubbed it in. Made sure there was a really thick coat everywhere and left for 24 hours. The Montypresso is so thick in consistency that it didn’t drip or anything like that. So I now have a much nicer looking fretboard with no anger from the wife due to stained cushions/table etc.
  4. Heads up f that I'm going to advertise this elsewhere. I need to sell something so get in touch if interested 👍
  5. I think that was on Brook street opposite the Catholic club , the Caspian is on Boughton just along from the Church. if I had kept any receipts it might have had the shop address on them 🙄
  6. Questions have been asked about the fitted hard case ...
  7. Heads up that I'm open to offers and going to advertise this elsewhere. I need to sell something 👍
  8. Heads up for a correction. My bass is one of the late ones with the curved US Bartolini Pickups and that I'm going to advertise this elsewhere. I need to sell something 👍
  9. Didn't that used to be the Private Shop? My dad had a video shop next door!
  10. Looks really good and so much better I think, i like a dark board, is it messy to use, did you have to use masking tape or something similar
  11. You mean with the political stuff? Basschat has pretty strict moderation that shuts down most partisan things. People get around it by discussing more general philosophical topics, although they do too get shut down from time to time. I’m 57 and it can definitely seem like a time machine to the early days of the internet around here.

  16. Great result for me this weekend darkening a pau ferro fretboard with Monty’s Montypresso. Cleaned the fretboard with lighter fluid beforehand and left the Montypresso on for 24 hours. Before and after results below.
  17. 34👍🏽
  18. I’ve made drawings and had these made by a toolmaker out of aluminum. Then I found someone who anodized these in black for me..
  19. I got the Montypresso and left it on for 24 hours after cleaning the fretboard with lighter fluid (I need to use the bass today so couldn’t leave it on for 48 hours). A remarkable transformation, exactly as hoped for. The Pau Ferro could now pass for rosewood. Thanks for the recommendation.
  20. To be fair, like all Youtubers, Sapko is an insufferable megabell. Whilst this may get "exposure" were he to pick it up, it’s still a fairly niche bass channel isn't it? Would it not just be the sort of people who frequent the forum who would check out a video he did anyway?
  21. Keep the 2x10, but buy a 4x10 of the same make and impedance (assuming it's 8ohm). That way you've got teh option of a 2x10 for small gigs, a 4x10 for medium and effectively a 6x10 for big ones. That's what I do!
  22. Excellent price!
  23. Selling this on behalf of a good and trusted friend, here you can see his original Facebook Marketplace ad. If you're interested I can put you in touch with him directly. Bass Collection "Betsy" Jazz bass, Guy Pratt signature model. EMG pickups. There's a ding in the paintwork to the left of the bridge. Go for £745 new. Full specs can be found here: https://www.basscentre.com/british-bass-masters/bbm-betsy.html No gig bag, collection only. North London.
  24. The evidence of this thread suggests that the number of "wrongs" is way past two.
  25. Website is still on line. I guess until liquidation starts they could still sell stuff... but pick up and pay in person might be wise. I've had various bits from them over the years (strings, rosin, a pickup, a bass bow) and a couple of minor repairs ( new cello end pin, bridge, sound post move, new bass end pin) all no frills decent work and they fixed up my orchestra's bass to playability.... never trusted them with anything too major tho as it was unclear who was actually doing the work.
