  2. I believe it's the serial number having seen several over the years with a P. and always a different number on the plate (and the left-handed version had LH after the digits). Highest number I recall was P.019.
  3. TONIGHT! (Technically last night as it's past midnight but it counts as tonight) Second gig with a new band (Midnight Mayhem (they were already called that when I joined, don't judge me)) at The Rose & Crown in Ludlow. Lovely old pub that has lots of live music so they're used to it, fairly small stage place where the band goes, decent mob there by the time we'd set up and soundchecked (The soundcheck (sixteen bars of 'All the small things') had people up dancing (!)) and from the off people were loving it - singing along, dancing and generally enjoying it. Mid first set, a bloke came up and told me he appreciated my Bass playing (Not 'liked' it, mind you) which I tried to take as a compliment, then he stood right in front of me and watched me intently which meant I completely forgot how to play. At half time a guy I'd genuinely never seen before came up and greeted me like a long lost friend ("I forgot you said you did this too!" ) so I had to pretend I knew who he was (because I am English and to say "I'm so sorry but I have no idea who you are" is about as appealing as stamping on a newborn kitten) which was...odd. The set went down really well, it's a mix of (sort of) alt-80s type stuff (Back on the chain gang, couple of Blondie ones, Kids in America (Kim Wilde - absolute BANGER and tonnes of fun to play), There's a guy works down the chipshop swears he's Elvis, Doctor Doctor (Robert Palmer), Echo Beach, Sweet Dreams sort of thing), a few pub-cover chestnuts (Dakota, Teenage Dirtbag, Mr Brightside (which the guitarist started in the wrong key and then got horribly confused when it came to the chorus but he styled it out)), a couple of curveballs (Take another little piece of my heart, Crash (Primitives)) and an ABBA one for good measure. I went for a wireless wander for the last song (Born to be wild) which got a good reception AND I got to fuss TWO Doggos *AND* a man told me my dreadlocks are "Really Cool". We played really well, sounded good, went down a treat (Even the bar staff liked us) and the singer said my playing "brought them to another level" which was very gratifying to hear. Played the StingRay -> Small board (I only used the Soul Food) -> Amp board (Thumpinator -> VTDI) -> Markbass CMD 121, footwear was the bright orange DMs (with glittery black laces). An absolute corker of a gig!

  5. Well I wondered this, but then on the Octamizer youtube video I saw a comment saying “why would you make this a digital pedal?” Or something along those lines? So no I think it correct - looks like they might be digital. I’m honestly not too bothered as long as it sounds good, however I know it’ll definitely be a dealbreaker for a lot of people
  6. Bend Me, Shape Me - Amen Corner (had to look that up)
  7. https://ashdownmusic.com/blogs/news/introducing-the-uk-pbm-200 I was thinking this on one of my pedal boards stupid idea or not?
  8. Very cunningly concealed, they're completely invisible.
  9. Trace Elf in good working condition. Tiny but mighty. An ideal home practice, spare or gigging head. I’ve used one a number of times with PA support and even in smaller venues on its lonesome. Comes with carry bag and mains lead. If my other amp I have up for sale sells first, I’ll be keeping this. Pics to follow but it looks just like a Trace Elliot Elf bass head. Postage mainland UK £10 or collect from Blackburn Lancs.
  10. Gibsons are readily converted to headless though.
  11. My preference is for neck-through basses, which is a bit limiting as it rules out FSOs and MMSOs (although I do have one of the former and two of the latter). That leaves me with hoping another Antoniotsai 5-string comes up, going for a Mazeti if one comes up, or looking at the Harley Benton BZ-5000 from Thomann or the Chicago 5-string through-neck from Gear4Music, neither of which I've played. Or maybe playing roulette and going for something from AliExpress. Or a second-hand Ibanez BTB (not the bolt-on ones).
  12. Another solid vote here for the Cort Space Bass 5. This is my third one... and it only cost me £420 in as-new condition! They sound fantastic too.
  13. For reference on the sound, Pete Trewavas has used the 4 string version with Marillion as well as his Warwick Thumb - for example

    BC 8" cab

Having finished the two BC1x10's I decided that I'd have a go at the BC1x8 which is well under way. At the same time I have also decided to build something to house the 15" Eminence driver that I'd been given a while ago. Both underway and at different stages of completion. I used an opensource plan as the basis for the 1x15 using WinISD to attempt to tune the final design. Only time will tell how it sounds. After these it's on to finishing the two bass guitars that are in the pipeline, a VOX Phantom tribute, planned to be short scale, and a new old stock Dan Armstrong body that I bought recently. It's a good job woodwork was my favorite subject at school.
  15. Cripes... that's about halfway bewteen Glasgow and Cardiff so it could also be a South Wales bash... Might make a weekend of it and see my daughter in Manchester ...
  16. I dig in hard, and I mever suffer with bridge saddles sliding. I have four or five basses with high mass bridges... have never noticed any difference. Funnily enough my first two basses (mid 80s) would qualify as high mass ... so perhaps I've 'devolved'.

  19. If you want a genuine solid traditionsl jazz bass sound with excellent articulation and sustain, then I recommend one of these:
  20. Up for a trade? P bassy style Bonus points for reverse p
  21. For sale, excellent condition. TWA Krytical Mass. Brassmaster style Fuzz with more than most! Huge sounding with plenty on tap. More tonal variations than other Brassmaster fuzzes in the market. Huge low end and gain on tap, all important clean blend and various 2 lpf's and a hpf for tones, choice of 3 position mids. Edge to add in some top end, bias to get those sputtering synth like sounds, phase inverter to take some low end out if gets too boomy, this can go loud! Web schpiel: Prepare for meltdown with the TWA KM-01 Krytical Mass®! Based on the coveted Maestro Bass Brassmaster, Krytical Mass® was born from exhaustive critical analysis into the inner workings of that Holy Grail device and the few noble attempts that have been made to clone it. Krytical Mass® spits out fat, formidable fuzz with a pronounced octave up as well as a more subtle octave down and a scorching, filter-like sweep on sustained notes. Muted notes will “kill” the fuzz with almost gate-like precision, yielding a super-tight, synth-like pulse that is simply addictive to play. Where other replicas tend to be harsh and sterile sounding, Krytical Mass® is able to capture the aggressive yet warm & organic edge of the original Brassmaster using a unique complement of EQ and voltage manipulation controls. One of the great mysteries of the Brassmaster is its unmarked transformer and how it was wound. Analysis suggests that this component may have actually been wired with negative polarity, so Krytical Mass® includes a switch to toggle between positive & negative phase wirings for additional tonal options. Another unique feature of Krytical Mass® is the ability to adjust the symmetry of the transformer to taste, accentuating either 2nd order harmonics for more lows or higher-order harmonics for more complex waveform content. Also on board are selectable HP, LP and BP filters with adjustable midrange to fine-tune Krytical Mass® to your particular tonal tastes. Fuzz sensitivity of Krytical Mass® can also be controlled via external EXP pedal for dynamic manipulation of the fuzz to create synth-like drive swells and other interesting effects.
  22. I once had a boss who witnessed it, he knew I was in bands and regularly warned me! I bought an ELCB as a result. In those days you'd sometimes see elcb sockets for the stage/band area and testing your own could trip them! Of course these days venues should be properly protected with rcd at the distribution board.
  23. That's a nifty comp. I guess a few compressors have a tone control for bringing some top-end back in, but having bass and treble boosts is a bit more flexible, along with the blend for parallel compression. Neat! Also always good to see metering! I wonder if they thought folk might place them on the shelf on that new combo? They kind of fit. I guess if you're stuck for space...
  24. My grateful thanks to everyone who has replied with your observations, suggestions, etc and for sign posting suitable bass candidates up for sale. However, revisiting the wording of my original Post what I especially wanted to know is what 5 string for £500 ish you'd go for ?🤔
