Dood
The PJBS was the first bass I ever really wanted. Infact my very first bass was a PJBS clone - the Marlin Sidewinder. I had a red sidewinder as it was similar to the picture of a red PJBS I'd ripped out of Bass Player magazine. My Dad bought my first Bass and Amp for me. So here's the wierd coincidence! I still have the magazine page - and in the corner it is dated September 1989. Jump on however many years (I think it must have been 17 odd!!) - I finally got to buying one after a G.A.S attack and a bit of ebay abuse. I didn't pay that much for the PJBS I found - I'm looking at it now - it's the same red - and it was made in 1989!!!
chriswilliams666
Awesome story! Prime_BASS
I think the 80s power jazz looks awesome , a lot better than the duff signature model, maybe it's the contours around the horn recession, take a look in my sig for my trade thread for a picture I'll try and get one posted in here too.
Yeah it's a genuinely interesting Fender man. There'll be a market for it, maybe even some people who'd pay top dollar for it. Fender made some heinous mistakes in their time, stuff like the P-Bass Lyte, but these white '80s spesh models with their hair metal roots were at least used by people so they've got history. I have to be honest though until today I didn't even know this one existed and I've been playing bass since 1989.
Dood
I found this pic lurking - but it's not so much the bass but my old, old rig, so I'll get a better one taken soon!
Dood
I know it's an old thread, but I stumbled upon this TB thread whilst googling stuff! didle
An old thread I know, I'm surprised there are only 4..... Anyway, here's my Duff sig along with myUS P and Warwick Streamer. I bought the bass a couple of months ago, when I started a GNR tribute with some friends. When we start getting some gigs I'd like to get an original 80s one and mod it up to Duffs specs like Chris did. Cheers, Doug
Paul S
Heres' mine - '85-87 Power Jazz Special. I love it. It had Seymour Duncan Basslines in it when I bought it and since taking the pics I have added a Gotoh bridge and a Hipshot D-tuner. sixdegrees
I have an original Jazz Bass Special in black for sale, if anyone's interested? Passive and all original, apart from the tone and volume knobs (which are black Gibson style). It's had a fair bit of action and the bridge and PUP poles are tarnished. But this doesn't affect the tone. I've had it for just under a year (after being a Duff fan for years and wanting 'that' sound). But now need the funds to go towards a Precision that I want to mod to my own specs. I will warn you that it looks good from far, but far from good... But the back of the neck is in great condition. And the frets are good for their age. I'll post some pics later.

Jerry_B
Argh! Shame I can't afford one (the cheapest I've seen is 600 quid). Would be very interesting to put the unlined fretless neck from my Jazz on it

chriswilliams666
Welcome to the family. Looks great. All original too by the looks of things. Was this the one on eBay? Paul S
Niiiiiiice! Is this the best colour combination? I think so. I used to be an 'all black' kind of chap but since getting my FPJBS in this same pearl white/black I have become something of a fan of the look. I bid midway then walked away and was lucky enough to get it for what i think is a good price. Ive been looking for a PJ bass, so tracking Aerodyne Classic Precision and these. Its got signs of wear only where you'd expect it, strap, belt rash but otherwise in good shape. I'm missing one "F" cap on the tone control but from what I've read thats pretty normal and I've got no chance of replacing them but no problem. Just been away for a bit of practise and its a very nice play.

Not a bass of course but I've got a Tokai LS75 Love Rock (Les Paul Standard copy) in vintage white with cream binding which makes the guitar look almost green. That could be the only guitar that eventually remains as I'm gradually replacing them with basses.
Dood
Wow! Very nice! I find myself wanting to get a colour change on mine! That White PJBS looks great! I must admit, I'm leaning towards getting Dimarzio picks for mine as an upgrade.. Not sure why as the Quarter Pounders appear to be the more usual upgrade! - I had a Dimarzio P pickup in a precision I had years ago and it was great - I also like the Sound of the 'Will Power' P pickup by the same company. I guess I need to hear a PJBS with either sets in to get an idea what they are capable of.

mrbassman101
I bought a PJBS (pearl white) in1988 -traded in a black 76 Precison with maple neck towards it. I have still got it and it has done hundreds of gigs and never let me down.Put a black Badass ii bridge on it and it plays like a dream.Still has a great sound and I've only ever seen a couple like it so far. A bit of a cult bass maybe and I like the look of the Duff Mckagan signature models even though they are not active.
