raze Posted January 30, 2010 Share Posted January 30, 2010 Can anyone reccomend me some cabs to look at I currently using an ashdown abm 4x10 and 1x15 with an abm 500 head I love the sound of the rig but moving around on a regular basis on my own is killing my back Im using a vt bass for most of my sound but i like the warmth low end thump of the ashdown Do the lightweight cabs still deliver or do they sound a bit thin Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I think you're looking for something that unfortunately doesn't exist. You're not gonna get much change from £800 for any lightweight high quality 4x10. But, if there is any way of pointing you towards a non 410 cab then the Compact is the very best non Bergantino cab out there. IMO IME of course. IMO IME of course.[/quote] I'll second that. They don't come much better that The Compact or even The Big One, which is still a hell of a lot lighter than your Ashdown. I love 4x10s. For all their flaws nothing is quite like that punch in the back they give but age and laziness have forced me to compromise for an easier life. Depends where your priorities lie I guess. They are not muddy, boomy or unfocused. They have full bass and mid tones and are clear and punchy in a way that the "older style" 15's could never be. I believe its got the Kapplite 3015LF which will give you some serious low end and the 6 Inch should give you the mids you are after. Its a bit taller than a ABM410 but its only 45lbs compared to around 80lbs for the ABM410! I´ve just ordered a Compact to replace the Mag115 under my ABM410. I would have gone for the Big One if it had been 8 OHMs but if I get a Shuttlemax 12.0 later in the year then the ABM410 will be out the door. Now that will be a seriously loud rig, around 850W into a Compact and a Big One! 51m0n Posted January 31, 2010 Share Posted January 31, 2010 If you want to stay 410 but you want lighter, then you need to try an ae410 - mine is IMO the best cab I've ever heard, and I include all the barefaced stuff in there (I've had plenty of time with a BF Big One to compare too), and everything else too. If you want to stray away from a 410 then the loudest single cab on the market is almost certainly the Big One (you need some serious wattage to get close to pushing that bad boy as far as it will go). Its a massive sounding thing, very very very deep bottom, tight focused mids, you just wont get the extreme top end zing as there is no tweeter. I have tried lots of heads through it and they all sound great Mesa 400+/ Fender bassman 135/ Ampeg svt3 pro and some cheaper ones also. The cab is huge with 3 ports and an adjustable horn attenuator. It is rated at 600 watts continuous, 1200 watts peak. Not sure of the exact SPL, but it certainly shifts some air.
