Any advice on my next bass?

I am the proud owner of a USA G&L L2000 which I bought in from the US a year ago (via Talkbass forum). It was great value and I love the bass, however I am getting a GAS attack and the L2000 looks lonely on its own so something else to hang next to it is the solution.

With a forthcoming visit over to the States soon (I have family over there), I am thinking of once again using the Talkbass extensive source of good value pre-loved bass guitars so I will start looking soon.

My challenge is what to look at. I love the characteristics of the L2000 - it can really growl and thump. My new bass needs to have different characteristics .. something sharper, more precise and laid back (and be a looker). I don't have vast experience so would appreciate a bit of advice what to start considering that addresses my aspirations, so I am hoping the knowledge of my fellow Basschatters can be of assistance here - any suggestions and advice will be most welcome.

Peter

(BTW - not looking to buy at the moment so no offers thanks)

Methinks you need something with single coil pick-ups. Maybe even passive?
That's what I've done (more by luck than judgement) as I've gone along; Bought a wholly different type of instrument each time- albeit a good example of its kind - Active, Passive, all kinds of pick-up placement and coil switching (The L2000 has that angle pretty well covered!)
Try them all, and try to appreciate each instrument's virtues.
Try them all
Best advice going! Have no pre-conceptions, keep an open mind, try everything you can and see which one sings to you.
If you want a few different basses to cover all the ground then you NEED a bolt-on neck and a thru-neck instrument, JB singlecoils as well as humbuckers, rosewood, maple and ebony fretboards. 5-string and 4-string. Buy them all!

Not at all, this was the first thing to spring to my mind too. Can you get my jacket while you're there?

Arrggggghhh! I knew this would be ananswer .... may have to start serious saving. Problem though is being able to try before I buy as per previous recommendations .... how do I get to experience all these wonderful options so I get to know what is right for me?
