However, some time ago I noticed the Harley Benton Jazz bass was exceptionally cheap, the MB22-2T. However, the HC reviews were a bit off-putting. It seems the electronics were quite poor. This might not be a problem if your intention is to "pimp" the bass. The reviews that mentioned the basic wood and the hardware thought they were OK. My only experience of there's is a Harley Benton acoustic that was so warped and had an action of an almost an inch at the 12th fret that it was basically good for firewood. Kind of off putting. You might get an absolute peach but at £85 there is much higher probabality that it will be worth about £85 - The better the wooden bits the better the end result will be, this is from experience. 7string Posted September 21, 2009 Share Posted September 21, 2009 That Harley bass is made of basswood, maple and rosewood, the same as Ibanez. Squire's have an alder body. As long as you're prepared for it not being perfect and accept that you're going to do a lot of work on it what's not too like! If I was looking for a cheap P bass, it's something I'd definitely consider (probably use eBay or similar to get cheaper replacement parts).
