Musicman20
I've noticed a lot of Ampeg stuff going really cheap. Me thinks troubled waters lie ahead.

davidmpires
I got my F1 from them a year ago and they had by far the best price, they a pleasure to deal with.
Dan_Nailed
Well it looks like the Ampeg move to Asia has paid off, cheaper overheads and labour = lower prices. Is it cheaper components too and a decrease in build quality? I jumped ship to Mesa before the US Ampeg stuff was totally phased out so I have little experience of the new stuff. Dood
Hmmm I guess time will tell in the QC department. 'US Made' will no doubt hold it's price if the Asian versions suffer a drop in reliability.

General feedback seems that after an initial glitch or three, the Nam built stuff is doing pretty well - and it seems particularly the cabs. baixo
Ampeg have now moved the production to Korea I've just got a SVT-2Pro delivered from Thomann this week, so far I am very impressed with the quality (I just had to adjust the bias a bit, but it's dead easy with the Ampegs). I think that Korean QC can be on par with Japan (or US), but only time will tell.
Musicman20
I bought a brand new SVT 810E cab....expecting it to solve everything. It just wasn't really that impressive. You had to have it very loud to get a good tone. That was a Vietnam cab....and yes QC wise it was pretty damn spot on! But...Ive never owned the US stuff. I dunno....that and the fact my friends Ampeg SVT 3 Pro struggles with volume has really put me off Ampeg. I won't be going back to them now...the cab has gone and the much nicer sounding/looking Aguilar cabs took its place. I tested a SVT-VR and I found it pretty dull. I was probably not EQ'ed correctly, but it did not have the wow factor for me. I think after a few years Ampeg will pull it back.....but I cant see myself tempted by their products again. Its a shame they are so freakin slack! I think on that recording it was my old Trace 400 SMX (now sold on) through a 4x10 they had at the studio (bizarre make, but damn crisp) and a sansamp to add some grit. Some of the songs are just DI into the board through the sansamp. The bass? Just my MIJ Reissue Fender P! Least expensive bass I own, but does a sterling job
