Paul Chambers on Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" , I don't play double bass but this album and Chambers playing is magic / spiritual / the business / my earliest musical memory 

 

Electric Bass probably Jerry Jemmott on "Completely Well" B.B.King 

the first tune is called "So Excited" and it's an exciting bassline for sure

Basse Contre Basse by Alain Caron and Michel Donato is the album that always makes want to listen to bass.

I'll go for these - one plus couple of runner ups. However they are all great albums in general.

 

Winner: The Fall - Perverted by Language (Steve Hanley)... such a great bass sound, driving the whole band.

 

Runners up:

Violent Femmes self-titled debut (Brian Ritchie) - on paper he is overplaying and it should have ruined the album... but no it made it even greater!

Stranglers - Any of the first 4 but I'll go Black and White.

I’ve not seen this mentioned yet, so I’d also like to nominate my 2nd place (by a very small nose) album - Led Zeppelin II. Listening to John Paul Jones’ genius on this album taught me LOADS about not just being a bass player, but about being a musician who plays the bass.

So many great albums with great bass on them and many I'll check out.

 

If I go right back to the start of my bass journey, Level 42 got me interested in the bass guitar but from there I remember buying three albums quite close together around '87/'88, three albums with great bass playing from the '70s.

 

I bought Heavy Weather and Black Market by Weather Report but the one album I would listen to the most was Stanley Clarke's School Days. It's not just the title track, the whole album grabbed me by the doo doo and I would listen to it over and over again. I was into Stanley's music for a while there, it was a bit hit n miss but School Days, for a mostly instrumental album, BOOM! Just gorgeous.
