Skybone Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Heard about this the other day, seems like another music shop has hit the wall, Kenny's Music, which has a few branches across Scotland. Had been into their Aberdeen and Glasgow branches through the years. They did have an online presence, but it looks like that's been taken off line. Quote
David B Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago And I wonder what happened to the Crowdfund cash (over £243k reported at the time) which was raised just over a year ago. It’s a shame. I’ve bought a few things from Kenny’s over the years and they always encouraged you to try out the instruments. 1 Quote
Hutton Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago (edited) It is a shame that the Aberdeen store has closed as the only other guitar store only stocks a limited number of used instruments although they do have a very good repair and set up service. I would also have to say that Kenny’s in Aberdeen had a very poor selection of basses. They more or less catered for those who play six strings. There were several times the store just didn’t have what I was looking for, so it’s not a great surprise I’m afraid. Edited 15 hours ago by Hutton Quote
ezbass Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Dundee was my nearest store and I bought and traded gear there. My nearest instrument store is now GG Edinburgh AFAIK, which isn’t a lot further than Dundee for me. However, for those whose local store was Aberdeen, this is real kick in the nuts, not to mention the staff at all the branches. Hopefully, there will be some sort of buy out and reopening 🤞. 2 Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago (edited) That's a shame, I'd nip in for guitar strings sometimes, though I think my only major purchase from them was the great Ampeg PF50T blowout of 2018 (that one's still serving me well). Edited 14 hours ago by Beer of the Bass 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Being down south I’ve never used them but was a name I’d been aware of for years. It’s such a shame but as per other threads the online mega stores seem to be taking over. 1 Quote

It does seem to be a recurring theme for most music shops, especially those in the more "out of the way places", loads of electric and acoustic six string guitars, a handful of generic other instruments. 1 Quote

I know a couple of years ago when I was looking at acoustics in Glasgow, GuitarGuitar were just a little more engaging and able to chat about what I was looking for in a helpful way than the other shops with new guitars were, and I like that they have some used guitars too. I ended up with a used 2020 Gibson G45, not an option that was originally on my shortlist, but playing it in person next to to others I just liked it. Edited 6 hours ago by Beer of the Bass Quote
