I got given one of these, just the unit, no power supply and no idea if it works at all?  
 

Does anybody have any knowledge about these? The psu for these appears to be a bit old school so I don’t have one that  Is it worth getting a power supply to see if it works?

 

if not does anybody want it, door stop, paperweight?

I didn't have this exact thing but i had an amp head that had this built into it... probably about 20 years ago. It was a bit shit, even for back then. Your version is an obvious rip off of the line 6 pod from around the same time! not sure id spend the money getting a power supply for it, but id also probably keep a hold of it incase I find one going free!

I still have it and use it sometimes, there was a handful of guitar amp models that sounded pretty decent. FX are not very good.

I had the bass version, because it also had guitar amp sims. The Marshall sim was particularly good. I thought some of the FX were excellent, the chorus, delay, and the simple but effective compressor.

I had a blue v-amp ii. It was pretty good for its time, but that was 23 years ago. If you can find a psu for well under a tenner (and assuming the unit itself still works) it might be worth a play, but I wouldn't spend more than that to get it working. I recall it has a weird din-style plug on the psu for some unknown reason.

One thing that catches people at times is that there is a little internal battery, same as computer motherboards have. It was not even mentioned in the manual! The battery lasts a few years and when it dies, so does the V-Amp. It stops being able to save/recall presets and things just generally do not work well. Really easy to replace, if you're aware there's a battery inside in the first place.

I had the Version 1. It was okay I suppose. You could buy an EPROM online for a few quid, that updated it to the V2. That was fun to do.

I have just seen this in my room and wondered if anybody wants it, before I move it again only to find it in a few months time, just cover postage?

Should the JHS guy get hold of one and tells everyone how great it is, they will suddenly be selling for £900 on ebay. A bit like what happened with the cheap and cheerful Bad Monkey pedals a while ago. I would hang onto it just in case.
