She's been playing since a few years now and all her videos are on YouTube.

IIRC her father is a musician too. 😉

She's quite amazing for sure!

Didn't click the link. This is Ellen, isn't it? She's phenomenal.

I have a bit of an issue with kid YouTubers in general - it feels horribly exploitative most of the time, like their parents are trying to make bank from their kids (especially the likes of Ryan Kaji and his parents, where there's no talent or anything involved, just cute kids playing with toys). But Ellen and her dad both seem to genuinely love music - her dad's a guitarist and he jams with her in some of their videos. She's got a pretty bright future ahead of her, I think.

I’m a miserable old man, who finds child prodigy’s very irritating. That’s more about me than them though, I’m only jealous and bitter. I remember first seeing Joe Bonamassa as a wee lad, doing his guitar face onstage at about 10yrs old….. I couldn’t stand him. Then, about 20yrs later I saw him live…. he was absolutely amazing of course.

Just goes to show that with genes and environment on your side anything is possible! Also growing up with all that awesome kit available in your own home - a far cry from the Hohner instruments into my stereo that I started with!

You were lucky to have a Hohner back then, I started noodling a decade before you on a crappy Maya EB-2 with the strings at around 1 cm away from the fingerboard... 🤦🏻

And people nowadays are selling these pieces of shīt at silly high prices, simply because they were made in Japan... 🤢🤮

Not even all Aria Pro IIs were very good to play, but Maya, Marchis, Greco et al., no thanks. Zerosette (07) has probably been the most non playable instrument I have tried.

You were lucky. I practiced for three months on a rolled-up newspaper that I found in a septic tank.

I used to have to get up every morning at six o'clock, play the newspaper for 14 hours a day - and when our Dad got home from working in the orchestra pit, would thrash us to sleep in 7/4 time, with a curly guitar lead.

Given the topic title I thought this belonged here as well as it is what I thought when I watched this - some people are just born to play!

Ellen is great. I subscribe to her YouTube channel. I also subscribe to the SBL channel and have seen the Mohini Dey video and was seriously blown away by her.

Mohini is the real deal. Absolute monster player, and she can do a lot more than just flashy Youtube-oriented onanism. She's in Willow Smith's band and they do some very interesting stuff - Willow has obviously moved on significantly from "Whip My Hair". :D And her other band, DarWin, are pretty bloody good as well, if you like melodic prog rock.
