This arrived this week at PS towers

Ampeg V4B.

It is simply incredible

100 watts. Simple to set up

Absolute ampeg delight.

I just didn't know this model existed or I would bought one ages ago

It looks cool and isn't remotely back breaking at 18kg

Gets its first Policed gig next week

Then a blues/rock gig

Then a ska/new wave gig20250725_170031.thumb.jpg.ca3644ed2b9628efd2cddbfe9b0209d4.jpg

Man, some big rocks some people live under when a V4B is an unknown.

Enjoy your light load tubes. An Elf makes an excellent backup.

I've been focussed on lightweight for so long that I never really looked

and as I carry PA most of my gigs I didn't need anymore weight

But I have a couple of gigs where I don't carry PA so am happy to lug this

Grab the SVT212AV cab and a perfect sonic and visual match

I've read a review of the cab and it says it isn't as heavy as Ampeg quote.

The review says it weighs 60.8 pounds 27.6Kg

Ampeg say 66 pounds 30Kg

Can anyone confirm this please?

I recall reading that and I never weighed mine but I would say nearer to 27kg ( I think shipped weight it’s probably 30kg )

I could carry it a sensible distance from car to pub but I’m a big strong guy so it wasn’t too bad.

A trolley / dolly works too if weight is an issue

The voicing of the cab is what matches well with the V4B

Not the most efficient cab but god does it look great and sound lovely as a rig.

I agree it does look great

I am thinking if it is 27Kg, I have a couple of eminence neos that would probably save 6Kg in total, bringing it to 21 ish Kg

that might work

Just checked manual and it’s 30kg virtually

Regarding speakers I’m not sure it would end up sounding the same as the stock speakers although visually it would look amazing !

Speakers need to be matched to their enclosure. With the neos. the cab could sound lovely or the speakers could just tear themselves to bits.

Why buy a cabinet just to change the drivers? When you could just put together or have one made for you, a suitable box to mount the neos in?  The manufacturer of the neos would probably have suitable plans for such an enclosure. It would be cheaper than this plan.

I am actually going down this route with Phil Starr

it was just an idea, but if the cab really is 30Kg then it's still a bit heavy

The other option is two x SVT112 cabs as a stack ? Pricey way to do it though

would look cool though lol

Yes it would. The other advantage being, for smaller gigs, you need only take one cab.

I've just had a delivery too! 24 cans od Ricards Red beer and 24 cans of Keiths IPA.  I think I'll enjoy them as much as the OP will his V4B! LOL Besides it's 33C outside at the moment. Our two air conditioners are working hard to keep us a 23C indoors.!
