kevin_lindsay Posted July 12 Posted July 12 (edited) When I'm bored, I do a new build. This is my latest. Poplar P-Bass body (i was inspired to use Poplar when I found out that the new Pino Stingrays would use this wood) Rothko and Frost Paisley Paper (over £33 for each sheet for the front and rear!!! Aaaagh!!) Custom wound pickup CTS pots Roasted flamed maple neck - i used white mother of pearl side dots to make them easier to see against the darkened maple when gigging. Nitrocellulose lacquer used on the body and the neck Lollipop tuners Edited July 31 by kevin_lindsay 12 Quote

snorkie635 Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Kevin, I salute you. Very, very classy. I envy you your obvious talent. To think I was in Motherwell yesterday and had no idea I was orbiting genius! 👍 1 1 Quote
Mykesbass Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Blooming lovely. Is that green a true representation of what it looks like in the flesh? Inspired choice if it is. Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted July 17 Author Posted July 17 (edited) The green is the colour the Shoreline Gold became when the yellowed lacquer was applied Edited July 17 by kevin_lindsay 1 1 Quote
Jackroadkill Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Man, that's very nice indeed.... I had (and stupidly sold) a paisley Telecaster, and have wanted a bass in the same scheme for ages. Quote
tauzero Posted July 19 Posted July 19 I like the way you've concealed the control cavity. Blends in nicely. 1 Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted July 19 Author Posted July 19 Yeah, i sprayed Shoreline Gold on the underside of the clear pickguard, to conceal the control cavity. After doing that, I also applied copper shielding tape on that area of the pickguard, to assist with the control cavity screening. Quote
djh73 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Awesome job! I have two questions: 1) About Paisleys, Rothko and Frost comes with decals (metallic sheets) AND with transparent waterslides... which one did you use? 2) The Paisley you applied from Rothko and Frost is flexible enough to be bent on the forearm contour? Did you have problems with that? Thanks! Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Hi there, thanks for the kind words! I used the pearl hold backed Paisley paper from Rothko and Frost https://rothkoandfrost.com/products/pearl-gold-backed-pink-paisley-paper-guitar-body-decal-690x480mm?variant=44344246337823 There was no problem applying the paper on the forearm chamfer. The most difficult part is smoothing the paper to blend into the body edge contours, especially when applying the nitrocellulose lacquer. I'm about to start on a Jazz bass next (flamed maple neck with rosewood board). I'll ne using silver backed Paisley paper this time. https://rothkoandfrost.com/products/silver-backed-pink-paisley-paper-guitar-body-decal-690x480mm?variant=44344252891423 I'll post pics of the various build stages as the work progresses. 1 Quote
