I'm trying to get my hands on a Yamaha BB425X or 1025X but they seem as rare as a five legged horse, though there is the occasional overpriced one often in some remote corner of the country 'collection only', or from overseas with shipping costs half the price of the bass! πŸ˜‚

Rigby Music in Stockport are advertising a red BB424X for Β£350 if anyone is interested however whether it's still for sale I couldn't say (what is it with music shops and dealers who persist in advertising guitar stock they sold six months ago ?πŸ€”)interested

Cheers, Steve

Hi Terry. Thank you very much for the lead and also for the link. Can't believe I missed this as I was only looking through their secondhand gear pages on Sunday ? πŸ€”

I've just had a chat with Andertons and will more than likely pull the trigger so many thanks again πŸ€—πŸ‘

You're welcome Steve. I remembered it on the website when I saw their used Ibanez AFR5 that I'm pondering over πŸ‘ Good luck either way.

Ashbory Mk 2. About 80 black ones were made, at least two of them owned by BC members (me being one of them). There was then a run of ten made by Clive Cherry with BrazilianΒ mahogany bodies, and bookmatched flame maple tops and headstock facing. I managed to get one of those a few months ago. No more were ever made.

Hi Terry. Very kind of you to tip me off. I'd seen this myself about an hour before you kindly posted me the link.

I'm not sure what to make of the 1025x. As others have already commented on line, does the 1025x really justify the price mark against the 425x? Having never been lucky enough to try either I'd be very grateful to learn what others think.

I've noticed a fellow member up in Scotland has also posted a black 1025x for Β£550. So far as I can tell no one has snapped it up yet.

In the meantime I'm still pondering Anderton's 425x. I spoke to them this morning. They rate the condition only 3 out of 5. Furthermore, I wasn't able to get much useful info out of sales guy so feel I'd be taking a gamble πŸ€”. Like most sellers, they won't entertain offers either πŸ˜”

Hi Steve,ah you'd already seen it,no worries. I have no personal experience with these but remember hearing that the price difference between them was entirely justified. Hopefully someone who knows more can chime in. It's interesting how Andertons rate the condition of their used basses. I'm in London so able to pop in quite easily and I tried the AFR5 in person which was rated a 3/5 and I couldn't really see a mark anywhere on it. My only hesitation is whether or not it's "my" sound. Good luck with the search. At least they're popping up somewhat.

Hi Terry

It's very kind of you to think of me and to help me out πŸ™

I've bought from Andertons several times. Three brand new Sire's and bits and bobs accessory wise. To be honest I felt Andertons might be being a bit over cautious with their grading, though there is a bit of a dent that could be influencing that. The photos aren't brilliant because the white finish is bouncing back too much glare.Β

Interesting to hear what you say about the AFR5. I do like the shape of these and being a bit of a fan of the old Ergodyne series (I have an EDC) had always fancied an EDA though not altogether sure I like the sound plus I've heard discouraging feedback about the Piezo pick up.

In a way I envy you living within 'dropping in' distance of Anderons and the London stores. I'm originally from North of the River myself and remember spending many a Saturday in the days of my youth trawling the music scene in and around Soho trying to decide what gear I'd buy - if I had any moneyπŸ˜‚ Now I'm 250 miles away and retired but did manage to persuade my wife to drop into Yamaha HQ, London when we were there a year ago (I walked out with a brand new TRBX604 but couldn't get on with it so sold it a few months later).

That's the trouble with us guitarists, we're a fickle bunch πŸ˜‚!!

Have a good weekend
