HeadlessBassist Posted yesterday at 13:11 Posted yesterday at 13:11 (edited) It just crossed my mind... Mainly, because I'm sitting on a train, traveling from Derby to Edinburgh today to pick up a bass from another BassChatter. So, anyone done more than 500 miles in a day for a Bass..? Lozz196 Posted yesterday at 13:21 Posted yesterday at 13:21 Most for me was 400, Hemel Hempstead to Torquay and return. I did deliver a bass to a buyer in The Netherlands once, we were on tour so met up with him just down the road from where he lived. 1 Quote
neepheid Posted yesterday at 15:33 Posted yesterday at 15:33 About 200 miles each way is the most I've gone for the sole purpose of buying a bass. 1 Quote
tubbybloke68 Posted yesterday at 15:40 Posted yesterday at 15:40 I drove 550 miles to Preston and back to pick up a Wal Mk 1 . Bloody long day but no regrets!! X 😊 1 2 Quote

NancyJohnson Posted yesterday at 16:41 Posted yesterday at 16:41 Umm, Crowthorne to Queen's Club, Hammersmith. 80 mile round trip. Lakland DJ5, black sparkle. What was I thinking. 1 Quote
spongebob Posted yesterday at 16:48 Posted yesterday at 16:48 I drove to Will at Bass Bros, thats a 350-mile round trip for me from down here. It was well worth it, I must add. 👌 1 Quote

velvetkevorkian Posted yesterday at 17:56 Posted yesterday at 17:56 I've not gone far but I had someone drive at least several hundred miles from (somewhere in) England to collect a double bass from me in Glasgow, despite him apparently not having played before. Quote
neepheid Posted yesterday at 18:12 Posted yesterday at 18:12 (edited) I did drive about 550 miles in each direction to collect a Markbass cab, but to be fair I was also going down to the SW Bass Bash anyway, so I don't know if it counts as I wasn't going there with the sole purpose of collecting gear... Pfft. 500 miles is a short trip in Aus. Near Brisbane to Melbourne to pick up a bass, and a pair of speakers, the latter of which I sold for enough to pay for the entire trip. 1700km e/w, driven pretty much directly, except for a couple of hours napping. It was about 50 something hours round trip. Bass was an Alembic S2. Edited yesterday at 18:42 by crazycloud 4 Quote
Hellzero Posted yesterday at 19:10 Posted yesterday at 19:10 I've done a 1200 kilometres (around 750 miles) round trip to buy a Leduc U-Basse 6 from my place to a small town in Switzerland, I was younger and driving was part of my job (no, it's not linked to trucks). And I've done regular 600 kilometers (around 375 miles) round trips to sell, trade or buy instruments/amps in Paris. 2 Quote
LowB_FTW Posted yesterday at 19:17 Posted yesterday at 19:17 From my bed to the front door. 😂 It's only a small country in Northern Ireland. hahaha Mark 3 Quote

Spookily, I went from Edinburgh to Derby and back to buy an Ovation Elite Collector's six-string once upon a decade. If I remember, the shop may have been called Charles Faulds? 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted yesterday at 19:26 Posted yesterday at 19:26 For the record, a guy made a 1600 kilometres round trip to come to my place to buy the 1976 Fender Twin I was selling for peanuts and he barely slept. I offered him tons of coffee and a meal before he drove back and asked him to call me when he was home sound and safe, which he did and told me he was going to a festival a few hours later... 2 1 Quote

Grooverjr Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Mexico City to York. For a Vigier (and a funeral, but that would spoil the story) Quote
jazzyvee Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I travelled from brum to LHR then to LAX, then drove from there to Santa Rosa to pick up my Alembic from the factory. Also on another occasion drove from brum to Berlin to pick up my DB. PHEW…… good fun but never again. 🧐 1 Quote

This was about '02 when Alembic prices here were very low. Sold it later for a big return, not because I didn't love it, but I wasn't playing 4s much, and I used it as part of the deposit for a house. 1 Quote
ajkula66 Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago (edited) I haven't gone any major distances myself - no more than a couple of hundred miles one way - BUT when I resided in the U.S. I had a buyer who flew from Texas to Pennsylvania (1600 miles +) to pick up a fairly rare bass that I was selling and had zero intent of shipping under under any circumstances...
