It just crossed my mind... Mainly, because I'm sitting on a train, traveling from Derby to Edinburgh today to pick up a bass from another BassChatter.

So, anyone done more than 500 miles in a day for a Bass..?

Most for me was 400, Hemel Hempstead to Torquay and return.

I did deliver a bass to a buyer in The Netherlands once, we were on tour so met up with him just down the road from where he lived.

I drove 550 miles to Preston and back to pick up a Wal Mk 1 . Bloody long day but no regrets!! X 😊

I think you're probably the default winner there! And for THAT bass it had to be worth it.

I’m sure someone will come along to better it 🤣

I drove to Will at Bass Bros, thats a 350-mile round trip for me from down here. It was well worth it, I must add. 👌

Yes, I have to say that my trip to  visit Will at Bass Bros was well worth it. The most expensive trip of it's kind [ever], but definitely worth it.

I've not gone far but I had someone drive at least several hundred miles from (somewhere in) England to collect a double bass from me in Glasgow, despite him apparently not having played before.

I did drive about 550 miles in each direction to collect a Markbass cab, but to be fair I was also going down to the SW Bass Bash anyway, so I don't know if it counts as I wasn't going there with the sole purpose of collecting gear...

Pfft. 500 miles is a short trip in Aus. Near Brisbane to Melbourne to pick up a bass, and a pair of speakers, the latter of which I sold for enough to pay for the entire trip. 1700km e/w, driven pretty much directly, except for a couple of hours napping. It was about 50 something hours round trip.

Bass was an Alembic S2.

I've done a 1200 kilometres (around 750 miles) round trip to buy a Leduc U-Basse 6 from my place to a small town in Switzerland, I was younger and driving was part of my job (no, it's not linked to trucks).

And I've done regular 600 kilometers (around 375 miles) round trips to sell, trade or buy instruments/amps in Paris.

Spookily, I went from Edinburgh to Derby and back to buy an Ovation Elite Collector's six-string once upon a decade. If I remember, the shop may have been called Charles Faulds?

For the record, a guy made a 1600 kilometres round trip to come to my place to buy the 1976 Fender Twin I was selling for peanuts and he barely slept.

I offered him tons of coffee and a meal before he drove back and asked him to call me when he was home sound and safe, which he did and told me he was going to a festival a few hours later...

Yes, it was called Charles Foulds and Son on Irongate in Derby. I bought my first Cello there.
