I don't have the Flex any more (a BCer contacted me privately and asked to buy it off me) but, from memory, I think the Fifteen has more tonal variety (including helpful LP and HP filters)  and can be driven a bit harder. Its also quieter in operation. Early impressions of Fifteen are that its exactly the preamp/DI pedal I need.

 

Edit: I also had a nagging fear over valve failure with the Flex as I previously owned an EBS Valvedrive which died on me (yes, its easy to replace a dead valve but not during a rehearsal or gig!)

I have a cab m with loads of great IR’s (really like the Mesa cabs pack) which really sound great for FOH/IEM mixes!

 

Ultimately there’s just the fear of pedal board ego death. If one pedal can do what I need then everything else is redundant which I’ve loving and painstakingly curated over a few years.
 

But yeah I’ll likely just buy one in jan when my Monzo 1p saving challenge finishes. 
I might even nab the matching compressor too.  

 

 

Can't remember whether you ever went down the Ampeg SGT DI route? I've just come across this: Ampeg SGT-DI vs Origin effects Bassrigs - Effects - Basschat and quite a few BC'ers are really liking how Ampeg are delivering an authentic Ampeg sound!

Was OK but the EQ bands are not the same as the pedals they are meant to be emulating in the Ampeg SGT-DI.

Naw my preamp needs have been well met by Simone these last number of years with a little dalliance with tube DI’s and transformer based fun. 

 

I think it’s already been discussed that they’re two different units and I’ve listened to the Phil Conrad A/B where he compared the SV and the SGT-DI and form those audio clips I preferred the Bassrig. We all have different needs and whatnot. 
 

To be fair on that thread there’s not that many responses and there’s some positive and negatives for both units. Build quality, bounce and feel of a tube amp and there’s nothing to say all those responding have A/B’d both units. Some folk are ever preferring the SGFX BetaV. Some dislike the built in cab sim on the SV, most folk didn’t rate the SGT-DI compressor choosing (somewhat ironically) the Origin unit.
 

Banter aside lots of different flavours of Ampeg out there for all budgets and tastes.

Well it had to happen in true Basschat GAS fashion I've sold the BR15. ☹️

There was nothing wrong with the Origin Effects BR15, it has a real old school sound that I ultimately didn't get on with.

I put on the Rheingold BP-2 preamp with a United Vintage Di, my two favourite preamp / di combination.  Now that's my sound.

I think I ultimately couldn't get on with the mid focused sound and the 1x15" cab SIM. The build quality and functionality is up there with the very best studio equipment and the sound was fantastic if you wanted the B15 experience.

I've come to the conclusion that my sound is full range and clean. IMHO the Rheingold preamp with a vintage transformer Di just does it for me.

I know exactly what you mean. There’s a way of designing a tube based preamp in conjunction with transformers which just sits right, sounds right and feels right to play.  
 

For many of us a compressor adds to that but at its fundamental core tone there’s a magic from transformers which is more present, deeply analogue and has a saturation and fatness which is very different to tubes. 
 

I’ve checked out the United D.I. on you tube and it’s a solid unit. We really should meet up and chat tone some day 🙂

 

The BR15 does a lovely thing but it’s not everyone’s ideal sound. It’s a classic sound but quite specific.

I also have a BP-2, such a great pedal. Need to check out that United Vintage DI, defo looks the business.

BTW, did I buy your BR15 from Reverb? 😅
