1979 Stingray Bass with hard case- plays beautifully, neck is amazing. Some battle scars (see photos), sounds a dream. Not the epoxy pre amp and not heavy. Can drop off in London as well.

May I ask the difference of the existing preamp compare to the epoxy one?

You would have to ask an expert, the earlier stingrays had an epoxy covered pre amp, that’s all I know

I think that case probably is a late '70s or early '80s Yamaha.

I have a similar age one too - also not epoxy - the only difference is the epoxy 

 

not the pre-amp . absolutely wonderful sounding bass

Not sure about that, seems to be completely moulded to fit the stingray. Earlier ones had beige cases.

As far as I know, stingray's could indeed have the beige cases, teardrop, or beige corduroy.

I think this is a Yamaha because it matches the color of the interior, overal placement of interior parts, type of latches, the grip. 

 

You're right that the fit seems quite good for a Stingray. Maybe someone did a nice job in altering the interior.

Have modified the ad so it says hard case- it was sold to me with this case by Richtone at the bass show in Olympia-all those fancy basses and this was the winner.

Very same as mine!....year and finish, bought by me new for, if memory serves £360.....lovely neck profile compared to later Rays and at 4.2 kgs not a bad weight...
