I was admiring the pics of this P bass when I noted the image of the truss rod adjuster/end of neck... not much Rosewood left after the neck was made true! :)

When discussing the amount of meat on a fingerboard it sugests that it may have been butchered. A stroll down to see those chaps at Smithfield Market would be adviseable as they may be able to supply a particularly close-grained piece of steak to use as a replacement fingerboard. The only other option I can think of is perhaps a cut of pork but this should only be considered if you wish to achieve a sound similar to say Stu Hamm or Tony Bacon.

And remember - keep practising those chops.

That is how it was built, mid way in 62 they stoped using the block rosewood and used venear instead. I have a late 62 Strat that has the same construction. :)

Aye, the owner is bacon up the wrong tree. There's more to this bass than meats the eye, I'd steak my reputation on it.

ouch. sorry, that was shocking.

Absolutely true - in fact I had an early Tokai lined fretless Jazz with the same veneer type fingerboard.

I'll steak my reputation on it. Ahem....
