Si600 Posted May 6, 2020 Share Posted May 6, 2020 Evening all. Has anyone ever built a bass body out of sections with the glue joints perpendicular to the strings? Rexel Matador Posted May 6, 2020 Share Posted May 6, 2020 (edited) Is the grain going to be perpendicular to the strings as well? In theory a good joint is as strong as the wood right? None of my amateur scarf-jointed headstocks have failed yet, so I wouldn't be too worried about it. You could always put some kind of rod through the length of it, just to be on the safe side. I'm actually thinking of a multi laminate blank at 45°, 90 was a worst case scenario! I'm also, now, thinking of a battenburg effect, like one of those alternating block chopping boards that are all over YouTube... I need sleep... T-Bay Posted May 6, 2020 Share Posted May 6, 2020 If you are interested in glues look at some of the data sheets. I used to build and race single seat electric race cars. I used a mix of carbon honeycomb and aluminium extrusions for the monocoques, all glued together with 3M DP410 full structural adhesive.
