Fender did do a "see through blonde" colour which i think was called "Mary Kay"
drums1977
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would say thus is Olympic white. I don't think blonde was an option of Fullerton RIS. These Ps are great.
Hi, This one is Blonde, It is quite hard to capture the colour in photographs but when you see it in the flesh , you know it is blonde. The 3rd & 4th picture from the top , is the closest match to the true colour. Olympic white basses , when originally made , are white in finish but in time often fade and the white can turn blonde. These really are great basses to play with a great P bass tone
hi drums, hope you have better weather in Malaga than us here in the uk Here is a post from FDP Apr 26th, 2010 10:11 PM Edit Profile Print Topic Search Topic clast asks an interesting question...if CAR appears on AVS basses earlier than the late 80s. My original Fullerton catalog from January 1982, which introduces both the AVS line and the color charts for the reissues, lists CAR as one of the original Fullerton colors. The other finishes available for the 57 P were Vintage White, Black, LPB and Fiesta. It has been my experience that Fullerton basses across the board with original custom colors are rare, some colors more than others. George (This message was last edited by edmonstg at 05:58 AM, Apr 27th, 2010) You will understand from George's 1982 catalog that the white finish was neither blonde nor Olympic white but Vintage White, which as Chris has noted being nitro often fades to a lush blonde appearance. Chris Horton
Thanks for the information on the control guy's. It's really interesting to try and get to the bottom of the vintage basses. The bass featured on andy's site was my bass that i had on comission sale which is why the serial number is the same. mckendrick
This site also refers to Vintage White http://www.fenderrei...ue-strat-colors
I find that fella makes a number of fundamental mistakes with his descriptions, at times - tho' he's not an official Fender site. The original 1982 official catalogue refers to this bass being available in 2-tone sunburst and blonde only. 'Mary Kay Blonde' isn't an official colour, either - just a colloquial description that was coined after Mary Kay played a see-through blonde Strat in her group. A 'Mary Kay' described finish included gold hardware. 'See through blonde' wasn't on the colour chart either, but it was offered as a finish. Hope this helps. Anyway.... gorgeous bass, Chris... good luck with the sale. . Edited December 6, 2015 by mckendrick
