julesb
Great example of the 'p-bass can do anything' mantra. In the right hands of course... In this case it's a guy called Audun Erlien. I don't even own p-bass but I'm a long term fan of what these great machines can do in the right hands. By the way this is just great bass playing: no widdling... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQqo_TybfnU
Davo-London
Great bass tone for Jazz. I'm guessing flats with a mid-rich EQ. It works superbly. Thanks for the youtube reference. Davo
Davo-London
Full Ampeg rig obviously and the Precision maybe pre-CBS looking at the neck and headstock, He has a very unusual RH and LH technique. And he use a plectrum ... ah throw out all the rule books! Amazing - such a great URBy sound. Davo
Davo-London
Just listen to the whole session. Really both the band and the bass player are worth a good listen. Thanks Jules Davo

mattbass6
Thanks for the introduction to Mathias Eick. The music is stunning and yes, great tone on that lovely P-bass, too.

MoonBassAlpha
Arild Anderson is nice, some may find it a bit mellow, but I love ECM records from that era. Green shading in to Blue was the album I was thinking of.
JamesBass
I've just discovered Snarky Puppy. Really like their P bass playing bassist.
Michael League is a phenomenal bass player, his tone is superb bearing in mind he can be on stage with literally dozens of other instruments, and his lines while complex on first listen are rather simple when analysed a bit more! He's up there as one of my main influences, currently!
Davo-London
Folks I befriended Audun Erlien on Facebook and asked him about his strings. It transpires he uses La Bella 760M, i.e. the James Jamerson flawounds on his Precision. These are the high tension classic La Bella flats. I should ask him more questions but that's the story so far. Davo

Leonard Smalls
This is a bit less precise, and a bit more jazz And trust Ornette to push the boundaries of what instrument you can play in jazz Edited November 11, 2015 by Leonard Smalls
