Yeah, discovered that when I gave up and took it to the guitar shop. In the end, in order to bring the buzzing to a human level and still have a usable action they had to put a small shim in, which is a bad show, basically I think next time I get GAS I'll either buy direct from the bass show or nip to bass direct. After this I'm done with buying unseen. Not that it's bad, it sounds great in fact, it's just marred the whole experience, especially knowing I won't be able to completely get rid of the buzzing without having action a bus could ride under.
I would send it straight back, you should not have to take a brand new handbuilt bass to a tech to have it set up because its unplayable, let alone fit a shim!!

a freshly set up bass... in a likely different weather, after travelling and being stored cold etc etc...
It's not unusual that something will move. But it should be pretty easy to restore it to what it was before it was posted, usually just a touch of truss rod one way or the other.

However, that's just to restore the original set up. Who says that's what the customer prefers? I don't see what's so terrible about 'setting up' an instrument. I don't mean levelling frets etc, which should be perfect as it is new, I mean adjusting the neck curvature, saddles... Expecting others to set up a bass the exact way I like it is a bit too much. I nearly always tweak any new bass I get so that it plays the way I want it to.
Of course, you make small tweaks to adjust to your playing style. What this guy is describing is a bass that isn't at all playable out of the box, and has now apparently needed a shim to make it playable, with high action to boot. I wonder, how was it set up when it left the builder?

If you'd described that to me I'd have not been impressed. When you see it, though... :gas: :gas: :gas:
The lack of gloss certainly tones down the bling factor, whilst still being something a bit special. I have to say, the mixing of a J bass and a 'Ray really works. I don't know why I'm surprised, as they are two proven, classic designs; why wouldn't a mash up work?

Very cool bass, although if I were ordering it, I would go for 2-tone sunburst, gloss finish and 4 in a row matching headstock. Black hardware keeps in non-bling lol

Just thought I'd post to retract my grumpiness here. I'd spent the last 3-4 months playing nothing but upright ready for a gig and all my other basses have flats on.

All the buzzing came from the ridiculous amount of power I put into my fingers, so I've raised everything and tried to calm my right hand down as I could probably currently flick a pea to the moon.

Kinda mildly considering an Elwood 5, a super-jazz type vibe....hmmmm. No real news, just thinking out loud!

Disco as f***! Awesome!
Thanks, keefbaker! Yes, disco inferno indeed - I appreciate that silver sparkle is not to everyone's taste, but then I seem to have fairly non-Basschat-standard tastes anyway, and I've long harboured a desire to get me a glittery bass at some point, so here we are at last. This one is a lined fretless Elwood with ebony fingerboard and Delano pups and pre. I was jointly inspired by the silver sparkletastic Mikey Way Signature Squier Mustang, which has a black pickguard, and also by the Modulus Flea bass, which is even more bling as it has a white pearl pickguard as well as the sparkly finish. In fact I was undecided which paint job/pickguard combo was cooler/madder so I've asked Adrian to provide me with both black and whitepearl pickguards. As you can see, he clearly thinks the black looks better, but I'm reserving judgement for now. I will try to post a pic of it with the white pearl one on at some point after I get it. As Chic once said, Good Times!

Many thanks, WoT. Yup, I'm pretty stoked about the way it looks to have turned out, too, and can't wait till delivery day - paid the balance last night. How long does it usually take from final payment to delivery, btw? Or perhaps there is no usually?

Incidentally I'm totally in love with my stealth tank now and pretty much refuse to pick up any other fretted bass.
Great to hear that - I saw that it was a bit of a bumpy landing to start with, so I'm pleased that all is well now. Enjoy!

I got my picture and paid yesterday lunch time. I got my shipping notification this morning. Expected delivery on Friday.

So once the payment arrives it should be quick.

For me it took about a week. Depends when the UPS shipment is.

That silver sparkle Elwood is killer, although I'd have gone gold sparkle ;)

Thanks, cocco and Sibob!
Gold sparkle could never be an option as the singer in my covers band has some silver sparkly trainers that have become a sort of band trademark of late. And the singer just happens to be my wife, so ...

Anyway, further to the black vs whitepearl pickguard issue raised earlier, this from Adrian today:

Hmmm ... first world problems indeed. Just going on the pics I like 'em both equally well, so it's a good thing I asked for both!
