Hi Everyone,

Please accept my appologies If I'm posting in the wrong Place (I may have missed a Thread)...

I recently picked up a Bass Guitar at my Local Boot Fair, Mainly because I liked the look of it.
I'm really just trying to identify it , and wondered if anyone could help.....

It has Been Repainted at some point so there is no Obvious Makers Marks.

Thanks In Advance
Iccy
Ahhh Could Be...Thanks
I Paid £20 for it.
It's not home-built.

It's a Shaftesbury, made in Italia by Eko:

It's had a refin - which I'd try & remove, if it was mine. Which, regrettably, it's not - unless you'd take £25 for it!

BTW welcome to BC, Iccy. :)

Jon.

I can't imagine it being worth £200+.

And Bassassin...your knowledge of 'interesting' copies never ceases to amaze me. You ought to be in the Antiques Roadshow team.

Sold my Shaftesbury a short while ago for nearly that amount (£188) & that was with a non-working pickup & a less than perfect (though original) finish - significantly more than what I paid for it too:)

However, with current financial climate, would personally hold on to it - if you can.

Well done, a good find - Collectible.

Hey Thanks For your Input Everyone....

I actually co-run a Recycling Centre and we do get the odd Nice Guitar through our doors...

I've had 2 cheapo Basses inm the last few weeks and a Tanglewood Oddessey Roundback Electro-Accoustic a couple of weeks ago

A Badly Broken Flouro Pink Bo Diddley Style Electric Mandolin

But the Piece de-resistance was about a Month ago a 1902 Banjolin (Mini 8 String Banjo)

Cheers

Captain Japcrap is all-seeing, all-knowing...

...and plainly has far too much time on his hands, as well as an eidetic memory for low-end tat!

Could there be a more pointless & futile "talent"? :)

Cure cancer? Reconcile fundamentalist Islam with materialistic Western decadence? End world poverty? Invent a non-polluting, renewable fuel source & reverse global warming?

Nah.

But I can recognise a pre-76 Fujigen Gakki 2388B/DX at a glance. And tell you what other colours it came in.

Sorry to thread-jack but don't suppose you know much about the Pro Aria II Rhino do you Bassassin?

I thought all rare bootsale finds had dissapeared since Bargain Hunt and Cash in the Attic made people think twice about what their crap is worth...

Didn't you build my hotrod? :)

I'm afraid I don't know much about these, Lord, these are post-Japanese production, and unfortunately there's not a lot of info about Aria after 1986, when production moved to Korea. Pity. really, there has been some really good stuff from Aria since then.

Your best bet might be to post some pics & info on the "Post Matsumoku Models" board at http://www.matsumoku.org/ggboard/index.php - there are some very well-informed types over there, whose specialist knowledge of the brand is well ahead of mine.

Now - hadn't you better get back to the loaves & fishes?

It's Sunday, my day of rest!

Ive just popped over to that link, its very anti non-matsumoko but ive posted a few pics anyway. There's a visible S starting the serial so it will probably be greatly ignored, im about to email Aria now, i dont know how helpful and quick they are?

Yes, it's the same one. I didn't use it much - it was part of a job lot with a combo, and it was so immaculate I didn't want to run the risk of damaging it (I have oil-finished wood basses because I don't want chipped lacquer or paint). Played well and sounded good. There is very little information on them on the internet - I searched quite a few times.
