I was hoping this was going to be a humerous one-liner :(

OK, then: One's a great big grey fat thing that stinks of fish with a bristly moustache, and the other is a marine mammal that lives in the North Atlantic. Ahem.

Sorry for the dull answer but I think the original Fortress had a P/J configuration & the Fortress one had twin J's stacked in a humbucker config.
Both originally being active with 2 band, treble & bass controls but I think the Rockbasses were passive?
There was also a German built Fortress Flashback that had a pearloid scratchplate & 'Lipstick' tube covered p/ups....

I wasn't aware they were different things.

To my knowledge there used to be only 3 Fortress models:

Fortress One (or just Fortress) - PJ for 4-string JJ for 5
Fortress Masterman - twin J-pickups stuck together in a musicman stylee
Fortress Flashback - lipstick pickups and a scratchplate

I'm quite happy to be corrected tho...

This was my understanding of the Fortress range but I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm also no Warwick expert but I can say that my Fortress One is a mid-90s German 4-string and has a PJ configuration for the pups. Passive with vol, blend and 2 tone knobs, a wenge neck and (I think) maple body. I'm not the original owner but the electronics don't obviously look like they've been replaced or have had a battery taken out to convert to passive.

I've got an old 90's price list giving prices for Fortress and Fortress One.
Fortress one being c£100 more made me think this is the active version over the passive version.

So, I think the difference is passive / active.

That said there is a Fortress R&B which I believe was passive as well!!
