Instrument insurance - who do you recommend

This is probably something most people neglect, I know I certainly have.

I used to use Musicguard but fell out with them a couple of years ago.

Last night I was lying listening to some music, and it occurred to me how much my gear is worth, it get's taken out 3 or 4 times a week, and well it's not insured.

Who do you recommend.

A quick search found these two

Both offer really good quotes, but has anyone ever dealt with them, and been unfortunate to make a claim, did you encounter any problems ?.

I've used Allianz - but only for Orchestral Brass (French Horn/Trumpet/Trombone). Their quote was good and my one claim (tempts fate) was settled quickly and without quibble. Can't comment on your other choice.

Thanks, I'll give them a try too.

I basically want to pick someone who's not going to mess about if I have to make a claim, I'm very careful with my gear, but you never know.

I've used Vic Knight for years - never had to claim, so I can't say I've ever been able to test them - and I hope it stays that way. I've contacted them a few times with questions, and they've always been very easy to deal with.

Mate, what was your problem with Musicguard? I'm insured through them and I'd be interested to know if they're as good as they appear to be, or whether I need to look elsewhere.

It might be worthwhile coming clean and stating upfront if you've got a vested interest. No one minds a heads up but nobody likes being deceived, especially if you're asking them to trust you with their cash.

I'd be very careful with that. On many home contents policies, musical equipment is not covered if it is being used in a professional capacity (i.e. you are being paid for your performance).

+1 Definitely worth checking out, I saved a fortune by just adding "outside the home" to my contents insurance.

But do you earn money from playing? If you do, then you're most likely not covered.
