Dropzone Posted November 20, 2013 Author Share Posted November 20, 2013 Chris, you may well be right, as the 15db uncut still sounded rubbish on the compact, which was never an issue with the Markbass Jeff Berlin / compact combination that was truely earth shattering, although would not get any louder after 4 / 10 on the volume. I suppose I would need a bi amp to let the compact handle the lows allowing the S12 to take care of everything else. [/quote] Would that make him a fender bender? Don't think it is an issue as I can get the tone and volume, I just feel dirty hitting a switch that takes low end volume out. [/quote] Which is why we have a Gear Porn section... Anyhow, back on topic, I've also a Compact and S12 and not had the opportunity to run them together. The only 2-Ohm capable amp that might interest me is the Carvin B2000. The BX1500 could be used in dual mode, but I like the idea of a single mono amp that can go down to 2 Ohms without having separate power channels. brensabre79 Posted November 20, 2013 Share Posted November 20, 2013 The Carvin BX500 can go down to 2 ohms too. With the same power as 4 ohms @ 500w. With a Super12 it is insanely loud. OP I think maybe the drop in volume when you put the -15dB pad in is making you think its a drop in bottom end, when it's just an overall drop in volume. The thing is if you overload the pre-amp it will sound dirty and lively. When you put the pad in you might have to adjust the gain, eq etc. to get the sound you want. If you're talking about a serious lack of LF even after you have done this I would start to think there may be a problem with something and check my batteries etc. If you leave the pad off and turn down the volume on your bass do you get the same effect? Cheers Geoff [/quote] The PF800 is probably nmy favourite amp of all time, ive always been an ampeg fan and this little thing is ridiculous, completely nails that ampeg sound and can get stupendously loud, im still running it with the barefaced S15 and playing venues of varying sizes, small to medium to large and it has never had a problem on stage edit: i recorded my new bands EP using my precision into an old valve ampeg and was shocked how similar it sounded to the PF800, totally nailed it. I loved the tone and facilities, and never had the cutting-out problem that was widely reported. It just seemed to struggle even when I wasn't pushing it too hard.
