Majority af parts are not Sony specific, and anyway a dealer who sells will be keener to sell you a new one. Sonys spares department was never great tbh. I used to have a Sony approved trade service business years back and, sods law, only skipped the manuals from the 80s and 90s about 6 months ago, I had hundreds as they all came free issue as soon as a new model came out. Try a decent eperienced independent engineer and see what he thinks, Most of the amps were pretty good. Turntable and Cassette decks probably just have mechanical problems due to grease hardening and belts drying out if its not been used for a while, so could well be cheaply repairable. The belt that ejects the CD tray was a really common problem with Sony stuff iirc, and the processor shuts the deck down if the drawer isnt opening when the motor runs. Cat Burrito Posted August 13, 2013 Share Posted August 13, 2013 I read up on it first but when I went to Richer Sounds (everybody is recommending them for a reason!) and they talked me into a different set up. A great recommendation! I also invested in some really good laptop speakers too so I can actually hear the bass on things like YouTube. The ipod dock is a must (I think mine was about £15) but I use the turntable a lot. Although they ruined me lol I went in that shop many moons ago to spend my hard saved budget for my first separates system.The guy sold me an amp & speakers that I totally blew my budget on. It was a ridiculous discount he gave me, as it was one they had on show and was their last Technics A class amp, I just could not say no to it. He offered me Amp & speakers which was their flag ship system (It was on the cover of their brochure). he even threw cables etc into the deal. I went home very excited & then realised that because I'd blown my budget I had no way of playing anything through it........ I had to wait another month to by a CD player.......D'oh !!! But saying that 15 years later, I still have it & it still sounds amazing. As a matter of fact I managed to buy the same amp again as a spare on the chance that the old boy may one day give up the ghost. I'd never have anything other than a seperate's system in my living room, they look a little dated but it's there to make noise not a fashion statement. I've also got a pair of KLH speakers I bought in ~1974, which are still going strong, and a rather nice Arcam CD player, bought used off eBay.
