Possibly the best punk basslines ever?

To answer a few questions :
Punk ended when greedy music corporations decided to shut it down.
Independent labels and pressing factories and independent shops were pulling the rug from the "You will buy what we say " music industry.
They set out and signed any bands they thought they could commercialise and bought the indie labels and shut them down.

People went back to buying what they say.
Just about every new genre has had the same treatment, Madchester indie, the naughties flux "artic monkeys style bands" that were doing that stuff long before them.
All shut down and run out of town.

I did hope the internet and file sharing would re-introduce guitar bands, but somewhere it has fallen at a hurdle.

From a 90s kid point of view my favourite are:

Longview - Green Day
Carousel - Blink 182

YES A MARK HOPPUS BASSLINE.

I think its a great bass line and Mark's bass tone in Blink is something I've been chasing for ages.

Gotta be most of the Bass lines by JJ Burnel on Rattus Norvegicus.

Just how did he get that growl from his P bass and still retain the bottom end?

not so sure there was much bottom end, but it's certainly one of the most distinctive bass tones ever, just love it when it comes in on hanging around

From what I`ve read his amp at the time just had bass & treble, and he played with both maxed.

Agree Paul, the rest of the CD sounds like it`s on the system but when the bass comes in, you think JJ is actually in the room, it`s that powerful. Got a gig with Straighten Out, a Stranglers tribute in a couple of weeks, looking forward to hearing their "JJ".

The Clash - London Calling
Rancid - Maxwell Murder
NOFX - Jaw Knee Music
Anti Flag - Post War Breakout

and this is stretching it trying to call this punk, but it's kinda sorta maybe slightly a wee bit punky:

Anthrax - Got The Time

No? Well it was worth a shot. I love that bassline though, simple though it is.

Not a punk fan really, but those stick out among the little I've heard. Some great tone among the punk guys, too.

More:

I saw the film the punk singer on film 4 the other night, Kathleen Hanna. From Bikini kill, loads of attitude, diy, political and great. A "punk" attitude.

Also check out Tilt and retching red, female singer with good voice (tilt) and bucketfuls of anger (retching red). My current favourite track is blue kid trapped in a red state.

Disregard the above if you think there are no American punk bands and the genre only existed in the late 70s.

Gabba gabba hey!
