tangodown87 Posted June 30, 2012 Share Posted June 30, 2012 hi all, tried my first coated strings recently, the aforementioned DR 'red devils'. Paid in excess of £30 for them as they were 'extra long life' and they went dead so quickly!!! absolutely gutted and cant believe how little life they gave me. Now ive never had coated strings before so is this just me being stupid? I was hoping they would have that 'twang' for a hell of a lot longer. Paradoxically, I find DR's non-coated offerings to have greater longevity than most other non-coated strings. I've never tried coated DRs, though. Happy Jack Posted July 2, 2012 Share Posted July 2, 2012 Had them on my Duck Dunn for a year - sounded great, no problems with longevity, but the colour coating flaked off pretty quickly where I did most of my plucking. I had read about people finding the odd dodgy packet but never found them myself til now. Sounded OK when strung up but the D-string went dead after 1 rehearsal.
