Anyhoo, to the OP:

All I can add to the debate is you're asking lots of people's opinions who have decades of experience between them and then you're ignoring or completely misinterpreting it. It really would be a shame to buy the Hartke just coz of the specs, then go and hear another rig somewhere which is a better sound for you which you could have bought but now you can't coz you have zero money and a rig worth half what you paid new.

2nd hand is really really really your friend. All my amplification, even now when I could quite happily by new, is 2nd hand and is all fantastic. No-one else knows, or gives a sh*t where it came from or how much it cost or what the specs are, they just like it coz it sounds good.

the 2x10 cab is light, and i can buy another one later. pretty expensive, i'd have to get a summer job to afford it, but if its worth it then i'll work my arse off lol

Yeah it's a good choice. I've only ever heard positive things about GK stuff. Never used it myself but it's got a good reputation.

The Gallien-Krueger 700RB is a good head. I think I recommended it somewhere to someone. I used to have the 400RB.

The Gallery will match all legitimate prices. The price listed on their website is quite high. If you get them to match the price at [url="http://www.gak.co.uk"]GAK[/url] then you'd save just under £150 on the head.

I'm sure you could make similar savings on the cabs.

You seem to be concentrating on VOLUME in order to be heard in your band.

Any amp of 200+ Watts into a 4 ohm cab. will give you volume. Different sized drivers will affect the tone and "punchiness" of delivery. Too much bass lacks definition. Too much top end lacks weight. Balance is required, which is why people combine 2x10 or 4x10 plus 1x15 cabinets.

Have you considered tone and clarity as aids to being heard?
Apart from choice of gear, EQ settings have a massive influence on your ability to hear and be heard.
I have a Peavey 210TX cabinet for sale on this board (£90) that has been used, on its own, with either a Peavey TMAX (350W) or a Hartke 3500 (350W) head, neither of which was ever cranked above 3/10. Always perfectly loud and clear (with appropriate EQ) with a very loud drummer, guitarist, and vocalist.

Also, you will often be listening to yourself off-axis in relation to the speakers if you are close to the boxes, so the audience will hear a different sound to the one you hear. You need to experiment when sound-checking.

Buying suitable gear off spec. is very difficult.

As many others here have told (will tell) you, use your ears to decide what to buy.

Snap it up ....
I played (sax) in a band with a bass player using the Peavey TMAX and the 210TX. He had the 15 as well but never needed it or took it to gigs.
Never ever had a problem hearing him (even with 14 people in the band)
